As a long-time fan of the Alien franchise, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the recent addition of Aliens: Dark Descent to the PlayStation Plus lineup. Having grown up with the original movies and spending countless hours playing various games based on this terrifying universe, this free offering is like a dream come true.
In December, subscribers of PlayStation Plus are thrilled about a free Alien game they can get, regardless of their tier. This means that whether you’re a PS Plus Essential member, an Extra member, or a Premium member, you can download this new game for free until January 2, 2025. After claiming it, the game is yours to keep permanently as long as your PS Plus subscription remains active. However, if your subscription service ends, access to the game will cease until the subscription is reactivated.
For those that missed it, in the month of December, PlayStation Plus subscribers, for the month of December, can download the following three games for free: It Takes Two, Temtem, and Aliens: Dark Descent. Former Game of the Year winner It Takes Two is obviously the highlight of this offering, however, Alien is a big IP with many fans, and it seems some of these fans are enjoying this new addition quite a bit. To this end, one of the top posts on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page this week is a posting praising the free Alien game.
Aliens: Dark Descent is fantastic, I discovered after playing it through PS Plus. When it initially released, there wasn’t much buzz about it, but now that I’ve played it, I can confidently say it’s amazing! Although it’s not as smooth as X-COM and the user interface requires some learning, this game is a must-play for fans of Alien series, Commandos, Desperados, or X-COM.
Indeed, on its own, this post might not stand out, but its widespread appeal indicates that such a viewpoint isn’t rare. In fact, the comment section seems to reinforce this idea as well.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but agree – “This is one of the finer Alien-themed games that has graced our screens.” The first comment really hits home for me, and I couldn’t agree more: “Once you’re hooked, it’s an absolute blast to play.” A second gamer chimes in, echoing my sentiments: “It’s truly enjoyable when you get into it; it offers a sense of fun and satisfaction that’s hard to find elsewhere.
As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about Aliens: Dark Descent! If you decide to jump into it now that it’s free through PS Plus, be prepared to invest quite a bit of time. For most players, you’re looking at around 20 to 30 hours to complete the game. However, if you’re the type who strives for completion, you might need up to 50 hours to fully explore and conquer this free PS Plus title. Enjoy the journey!
