As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the news of games leaving PlayStation Plus next month has left me feeling a bit melancholic. The lineup for departures includes some real gems like Resident Evil 2, Life is Strange, and Dragon Ball FighterZ – games I’ve spent countless hours immersed in their worlds.
Starting in early 2025, several notable games from both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library. While Sony regularly introduces new titles to its game catalog for Extra and Premium subscribers each month, these additions often come with some games being phased out as well. As we approach January 2025, it’s clear which PS Plus games will no longer be available on the subscription service.
Starting this week, Sony has put 11 games onto the “Last Play” area of their PS Plus service. Among these departures, the standout title seems to be Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 2, often praised as one of the best survival-horror games from the last ten years. Moreover, Capcom is also taking off one of its Street Fighter retro collections, along with a few games published by Square Enix.
Here’s the full list of games set leave PlayStation Plus next month:
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Just Cause 3
- Just Cause 4
- Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection
- Life Is Strange
- Life Is Strange: Before the Storm
- Secret of Mana
- Legend of Mana
- Resident Evil 2
- Pure Hold ‘Em
- Hardspace: Shipbreaker
In addition to removing several games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, Sony has announced that they will also eliminate the free games for December 2024 at the beginning of January. Currently, PS Plus members have access to download It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and Temtem as part of their subscription. These games will no longer be available starting on January 6th, with the catalog removals occurring a bit later on January 14th.
As of now, Sony hasn’t revealed the initial list of free games for PlayStation Plus in January 2025. It seems unlikely that an announcement will be made this week, with updates more likely to surface around the middle of next week instead. Rest assured, as soon as we learn what new titles are coming to PS Plus to kick off the new year, we’ll keep you updated right here on ComicBook.
