As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Sony’s recent tech glitch with the PS5 ads was a bit of a head-scratcher. While I appreciate their efforts to enhance the user experience, it’s always a tad frustrating when tech errors creep up and disrupt our gaming sessions.
Sony has spoken out regarding a recent uproar about intrusive advertisements popping up on PlayStation 5 consoles. Recently, Sony introduced an update for PS5 introducing the “Welcome Hub” to the console interface, allowing users more control over their experience than ever before and even the option to eliminate ads from the home screen. However, despite this upgrade, some PS5 gamers have complained about still encountering ads, just in various locations compared to earlier. Sony has now clarified that these unwanted ads were not part of the intended changes.
In a social media post, Sony attributed the unexpected ads on PS5 to a simple “technical glitch.” This problem, now resolved, resulted in promotional content for various PlayStation games showing up as backdrops within certain installed games on the console. Sony maintains that they haven’t altered how game advertisements were shown before, implying that this occurred due to an unintentional error.
According to Sony’s official Twitter account, @AskPlayStation, they have fixed a technical issue affecting the Official News feature on the PlayStation 5 console. However, it’s important to note that this resolution has not altered how game news appears on the PS5.
Instead of just assuring us that the issue won’t linger on PS5, Sony could take a more definitive approach by reintroducing themes to the console. Of all features, the return of dynamic themes from the PS4 era has been one of the most requested since the launch of PS5 in 2020. So far, the “Welcome Hub” is the closest users have come to experiencing this desired feature, and it appears that Sony is satisfied with maintaining this compromise for now.
