Sony has declared that they are discontinuing their rewards program known as PlayStation Stars. In an update on the PlayStation’s official blog, Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise, mentioned that Sony is exploring alternative methods for a loyalty program.
PlayStation Stars service will be discontinued following its operation for three years. This platform offered various functions, such as granting players digital collectibles and other rewards simply for enjoying their favorite games. Additionally, the Loyalty Points accumulated by gamers through PlayStation Stars could be traded in for funds on the PlayStation Network account.
Ever since introducing PlayStation Stars, we’ve gained valuable insights about the activities that our players prefer. As a forward-thinking company, we adapt to both player preferences and industry developments. Consequently, we’ve decided to rechannel our efforts, which involves phasing out the existing version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to analyze the data from this program and explore possibilities for further development based on these insights.
Starting a new chapter here, I’ll no longer be able to welcome new members to the PlayStation Stars community from now on. However, fear not! If you’re already part of this exciting journey, you can continue earning digital collectibles and Loyalty Points until July 23, 2025. After that date, we won’t be offering any more rewards. And just so you know, if you decide to bid farewell to PlayStation Stars before the deadline, I’m afraid there won’t be a chance for you to rejoin later on.
PlayStation Stars, the current version of this rewards program, will close on November 2, 2026. If your points don’t expire before then, you have ample time to redeem them before the closure.
Chen expressed gratitude towards all PlayStation gamers for their support since the debut of PlayStation Stars in 2022. Moving forward as we brainstorm fresh approaches to advance our loyalty program, we’ll carry on honoring our gaming community through the engaging events and activities we’ve got lined up.
It’s important to mention that since its debut in 2022, PlayStation Stars has faced some heated debates. In September 2022, it was found that one of the premium rewards within the loyalty program was improved customer service, which sparked fury, particularly among Japanese players as the program had been active there for a longer period. Japanese gamers have also expressed their dissatisfaction about including customer service as part of a reward system.
