PlayStation VR2 is Getting its Price Reduced to $399.99

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Sony has dropped the price for the PlayStation VR2! Starting from March, you can grab this immersive headset for just $399.99. Interestingly, the price of the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle also falls under the same budget at $399.99. So, get ready to dive into a new world of gaming at an affordable cost!

The standard package for PlayStation VR2 comes with a VR headset, controllers designed for VR2, and a set of stereo earphones. The special bundle for “Horizon: Call of the Mountain” includes these same items, in addition to a voucher that can be redeemed on the PlayStation Store for the exclusive title “Horizon: Call of the Mountain”.

Choosing to set the price for the PS VR2 game-packed package equal to the standard SKU of the PS VR2 seems unusual, making the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle appear as the more appealing option. Conversely, the regular PS VR2 headset without any premium software seems like a less attractive deal in comparison.

“In a recent announcement, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Global Marketing Vice President, Isabelle Tomatis, stated that with fresh hits such as ‘Alien: Rogue Incursion’, ‘Skydance’s Behemoth’, and ‘Metro Awakening VR’, and upcoming game launches like ‘Aces of Thunder’, ‘Dreams of Another’, ‘Hitman World of Assassination’, and ‘The Midnight Walk’, it’s an exhilarating time to dive into the action with PS VR2.”

With the PS VR2 PC Adapter, gamers can explore, purchase, and enjoy a vast library of VR games available on Steam. Release dates and regional availability for specific titles may differ.

The reduced price is likely due to the PlayStation VR2 not performing exceptionally well in the market, despite debuting with over 20 games specifically designed for it. Its high launch price of $549.99 could have significantly impacted its broader acceptance among consumers.

Shuhei Yoshida, who once held the position of head at PlayStation, commented on the underperformance of the PlayStation VR2. He drew an analogy between the system and the PS2, emphasizing that the latter benefited from the modest achievements of its forerunner – the PlayStation VR and the original PlayStation in this instance. Regrettably, the PS VR 2 failed to match the same degree of success as its predecessor comparison suggests.

In January, Yoshida apologized for his mistake when he stated that PS VR2 was equivalent to PS2. When asked about the PlayStation VR2, Yoshida replied vaguely by saying something like “Hmm, well… let’s focus on other topics instead.”

Following its launch, PlayStation VR2 gained PC compatibility through an adapter provided by Sony. With this adapter, PS VR2 users can enjoy SteamVR games as well. The platform has also seen several exclusive releases, including a VR mode for the game “Resident Evil 4”.

The upcoming PlayStation VR2 will feature the game titled “Hitman World of Assassination“. Initially planned for a December 2024 release, this game has now been rescheduled to launch on March 27. IO Interactive, the developers, stated that they did not arrive at this decision casually.

The team expressed their enthusiasm about the interest in bringing Hitman to PS VR2, and were pleased with the positive response after the announcement. They stated that since providing a fantastic gaming experience that lives up to the expectations of their players is always their main focus, the delay was necessary to ensure this goal is met.
