The PlayStation 5 from Sony boasts an abundant selection of games, many of which are exclusive and highly praised by critics. Despite an already robust library of titles, Sony continues to look ahead with numerous projects being developed across various studios. During the latest State of Play event, fans got a peek at several of these projects, learning more about them, witnessing gameplay details, and even receiving release dates in certain instances. However, one particular game was conspicuously missing, causing speculation among fans regarding its status. This title was Haven Studios’ innovative multiplayer heist game, Fairgame$, which would be the studio’s inaugural project as a new intellectual property.
Initially unveiled in 2023, there hasn’t been much information or demonstration regarding the game titled Fairgame. With anticipation running high, some hoped to catch a glimpse of it during the latest PlayStation State of Play event. However, it was not featured, leaving many speculating whether it might have been postponed or even shelved.
According to industry veteran Jeff GrubB and co-host Mike on episode 385 of the Game Mess podcast, no definitive information has been shared yet, but they discussed Sony’s State of Play event. They mentioned the game Fairgame$, particularly its absence during PlayStation’s State of Play, and Jeff Grubb provided some insights about the upcoming title.
“No Fairgame$ this year. Fairgame$ as far as I’m aware has been pushed to 2026,” Grubb said.
If this is the situation, it suggests that there could be development-related problems or perhaps Fairgame$ has grown beyond its original boundaries and merely requires additional time to launch. It’s also possible that Sony delayed the game for other reasons, such as planning a less crowded release. Many studios tend to avoid releasing games near the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s plausible that Fairgame$ falls into this category.
Back when Fairgame$ was first unveiled, Haven Studios tantalized us with a CGI trailer, offering a sneak peek into the gameplay. Teams of three, it seems, will engage in thrilling heists, attempting to outsmart security systems, crack vaults, and duel against fellow players. It’s shaping up to be a high-octane, adrenaline-pumping experience that I can hardly wait to dive into!
Judging from the preview, it appears that distinct characters will be featured, each with unique skills and gameplay styles. One of these characters demonstrated the ability to construct protective barriers capable of deflecting security lasers and even stopping bullets. It is unclear whether this skill is an inherent trait for this character or if other characters can also acquire such a tool. The former scenario would foster teamwork, while the latter could lead to more flexibility in team composition.
Besides the trailer that was recently released, the game titled “Fairgame$” has been unusually quiet. No specific date for its launch has been announced yet, but given its silence since 2023, a 2026 release is not impossible. Regardless, “Fairgame$” is scheduled to be launched for PlayStation 5 and PC platforms, similar to Sony’s other multiplayer-centric games like “Helldivers 2” and “Concord”. Fingers crossed it performs better than the latter, which was unfortunately canceled shortly after its release.
