At this month’s PlayStation State of Play event, Arc System Works unveiled Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls. So far, details about the game have been scarce, but it appears that a variety of iconic Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man, will be part of the roster. The storyline that connects these heroes is yet to be clarified, however, some intriguing clues can be found in the game’s debut trailer. Reddit user MasterofKombat has posted a couple of images from the trailer, which could possibly suggest the game’s final antagonist. Although not confirmed, it seems that players might face off against The Champion.
The theory about The Champion, who hasn’t been seen on-screen yet, is based on two intriguing clues found within Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls. Firstly, there’s a stage with graffiti that says “Respect The Champion,” which might not seem significant on its own, as such designs are common in fighting game stages. However, the second clue is more compelling, as it appears to be an image of the character’s belt. A closer look at these hints can be found in the linked Reddit post below.
It’s almost 100% confirmed The Champion is the final boss/antagonist of Marvel

As a die-hard comic book fan, I can’t help but feel a thrill when reminiscing about the origins of my favorite Marvel character – The Champion (also known by his birth name Tryco Slatterus). This legendary hero was brought to life in the pages of Marvel Two-in-One Annual #7, masterfully crafted by the creative duo Tom DeFalco and Ron Wilson.
The first storyline revolved around The Champion organizing a boxing match, which eventually escalated into an epic one-on-one battle between him and none other than The Thing. This electrifying backstory screams potential for a high-octane fighting game, especially for Arc System Works to distinguish Tokon Fighting Souls from the impressive roster of games we’ve seen from Capcom.
Moreover, it’s fascinating to note that The Champion and Thanos share some intriguing history, making it a no-brainer for developers to introduce the Mad Titan as a playable character in future installments. This would not only deepen the game’s narrative but also add another layer of excitement for fans like me.
Video games can serve as a platform to introduce lesser-known comic characters to a wider audience. A notable instance is Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which significantly boosted the popularity of Deadpool, even before his standalone movie was released. In the same vein, Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls may help The Champion gain recognition as a villain, if this hypothesis proves true.
It’s not until 2026 that we can expect the release of “Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls”, so for now, details about the game are scarce. With PlayStation and Arc System Works keeping things under wraps, fans can only guess the storyline and which characters might be included. If The Champion indeed becomes the main villain, many are hoping to see The Thing as a playable character, since he’s rarely featured in fighting games. This could be an excellent opportunity to introduce Ben Grimm into the game roster, considering the Fantastic Four have been somewhat overlooked in these types of games.
