PlayStation's New 30th Anniversary Collection Will Hurt the Wallets of PS1 Fans

As a hardcore gamer who grew up with the original PlayStation and still proudly owns my dusty PS1, I can confidently say that Sony has hit the nostalgia button hard this time. The 30th Anniversary Collection is a delightful trip down memory lane, offering a chance to relive the good old days with a modern twist.

Sony recently announced a collection of PS1-themed consoles, controllers, and accessories to mark the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. Previously, they had only hinted at their plans for the PlayStation’s 30th birthday without mentioning any new hardware. However, it appears that they have now decided to introduce a range of new products set to be released this year.

In a recent video, Sony has announced that they are set to launch several new products including a PS5, PS5 Pro, DualSense controller, DualSense Edge, and PlayStation Portal, all reminiscent of the original PlayStation’s color scheme. This “30th Anniversary Collection” is ideal for those who had a fondness for the PS1, much like the 20th anniversary console designed for the PS4. Sony will offer these consoles in various packages, while the PS Portal and DualSense controllers can be bought separately.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on the latest PlayStation hardware, make sure you’re prepared to buy it as soon as it hits the shelves. Sony has announced that their 30th Anniversary Collection will drop in about two months on November 21st, with pre-orders starting next week on September 26th through PlayStation Direct. Sony has emphasized that this collection will be sold in very limited quantities, so most of what’s available will sell out extremely quickly. The PS5 Pro bundle, specifically, is only producing a total of 12,300 units and is expected to be the hardest item to find among them.

At present, Sony has yet to disclose the prices for these items. It’s unclear whether they will be priced higher due to their limited availability or not. As soon as we get more information about the pricing, we’ll make sure to keep you updated right here on ComicBook.
