As a gamer with over two decades of Pokémon adventures under my belt, I must say that the collaboration between Pokémon and Aardman Animations is a match made in heaven! Growing up with Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, I can’t wait to see what these brilliant minds will do with our beloved pocket monsters.
In recent years, Pokemon has been venturing into new realms. The film “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” introduced pocket monsters to live-action cinema, while Ash Ketchum and Pikachu hung up their hats as the anime’s leading stars. New territories are still being discovered in the countless video games that made Pokemon a household name. Now, the monster-catching franchise is collaborating with the studio behind “Wallace & Gromit” and “Chicken Run” on a secretive project that promises to grab attention. With over four decades of tales, the Pokemon franchise shows no signs of slowing down.
For the first time, Pokémon is partnering with Aardman Animations in a new project. However, this isn’t the initial foray of the Pokémon franchise into stop-motion animation, as it has previously ventured into that realm. Netflix’s Pokémon Concierge series, which didn’t primarily focus on battles but showcased some iconic Pokémon, was an example of this. Released in December of the previous year, the four-episode series centered around Haru, a protagonist who managed a hotel that welcomed various types of Pokémon. The details about the Aardman collaboration are yet to be revealed, but it has a lot to live up to given the impressive history of the franchise in this area.

The partnership between Aardman and Pokémon has been officially announced, but fans of both the anime series and Aardman should prepare for a bit of patience as the outcome won’t be unveiled until 2027. It remains to be seen whether this collaboration will result in a movie, TV series, or something entirely new from the Pokémon franchise and Aardman Animations.

Meanwhile, Aardman’s Managing Director, Sean Clarke, was equally thrilled about Aardman Animations venturing into the Pokémon universe, “It’s a tremendous honor to collaborate with The Pokémon Company International. We are deeply honored to be given the responsibility of breathing life into their characters and world in a unique way. Combining the global phenomenon of Pokémon with our passion for craft, character development, and humorous storytelling is exhilarating. Aardman and TPCi both value heritage, detail, and putting our fans first, which we believe will guide us effectively as we create enchanting, original stories that will captivate audiences globally.
