Pokemon Black Bolt and White Flare TCG Sets Reportedly Leak to Stores Early

The Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Black Bolt and White Flare versions won’t hit the shelves until July 18th, but it appears some trading cards have been leaked to the public prematurely. A Reddit user going by DrummerRude2964 has posted an image showing individual cards and packs being sold at a store in Staten Island, NY. It remains uncertain how these cards ended up in the hands of the sellers, but there’s been talk that they could have been stolen or distributed early by suppliers. At present, it’s unknown exactly how many of these items may have been released early.

As a dedicated Pokémon TCG fan, I can’t help but feel uneasy about rumors of early leaks for upcoming set cards. It’s a real concern, especially when it comes to rare cards from special sets like Black Bolt and White Flare. These elusive packs are usually only accessible by investing in larger items such as Elite Trainer Boxes or binder collections. What makes this situation even more suspicious is that this store appears to be selling these packs prematurely, not following the usual distribution methods. It seems that this recent disclosure aligns with a fresh report stating that finding Pokemon TCG sets like Prismatic Evolutions and Black Bolt & White Flare may be challenging for consumers in July. Earlier in the year, The Pokemon Company announced their focus on increasing production to meet demand for their TCG products, specifically the Prismatic Evolutions set which debuted in January. It appears that these older sets are being given preference over newer releases in their manufacturing process. Furthermore, The Pokemon Company has also been adopting new strategies to combat resellers.

It’s uncertain what penalties may be faced by retailers found selling Pokemon merchandise ahead of schedule at this point. However, it appears that only one store has been reported so far, but more instances might surface as we approach the product launch. I hope The Pokemon Company can take measures to prevent such early sales from becoming widespread, ensuring that products become available on their intended release date and maintaining fairness for all parties involved.

Just as suggested by their titles, Black Bolt and White Flare are inspired by the video games Pokemon Black and White, initially launched for Nintendo DS. These games introduced a total of 156 new Pokemon in the Unova region, which is reflected in the two separate sets that make up the “split expansion.” Given the popularity of this particular generation of Pokemon, as well as the current surge of interest in the Pokemon Trading Card Game, it’s likely these sets will experience heightened demand.
