Pokemon Developer Game Freak is Looking to Expand with Nearly 40 New Roles

As a seasoned Pokémon fan who has been following the franchise since its humble beginnings on the Game Boy, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Game Freak‘s ambitious recruitment drive! With over three dozen new roles open across various disciplines, it seems that the studio is gearing up to take the Pokémon universe to new heights.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share the exciting news that Game Freak, the mastermind behind Pokémon, is planning a substantial expansion. According to DenFamiNico Gamer (via Siliconera), they will be launching a new recruitment drive at the end of this month, aiming to fill numerous open positions across various departments.

Altogether, the company aims to fill a total of 37 job vacancies, spanning various fields from programming, design, art, and beyond. Some of these open positions are focused on developing Pokemon games, with certain roles dedicated to creating new internal intellectual properties, others to research and development, and so forth.

Currently, Game Freak employs about 207 individuals, but with the addition of 37 new roles, the studio would experience a growth of approximately 18% in its workforce. It’s noteworthy that many of these new positions are going to be temporary contracts rather than permanent ones.

As a dedicated Nintendo fan, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation as we approach the announcement (and eventual release) of the successor to my beloved Nintendo Switch. The whispers of its imminent arrival have undeniably sparked a surge in creativity among game studios specializing in Switch titles. This is particularly evident given the persistent rumors suggesting that the upcoming console will boast 4K capabilities, which inevitably necessitates more intricate development processes.

Following the contentious debut of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in 2022, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo felt compelled to express their regrets for the game’s technical shortcomings initially, and subsequently promised to address these issues moving forward while keeping a busy release calendar. Earlier this year, rumors circulated that the company was determined to implement substantial changes to prevent the technical glitches experienced by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet at launch.
