2026 seems set to be an important year for Game Freak, the primary developers behind the Pokemon series. There’s a strong expectation that they will launch a full sequel to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that year, considering it will mark the 30th anniversary of the franchise. However, it appears that Game Freak has something else lined up for release in 2026, unrelated to the Pokemon series or Nintendo platforms. During today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Game Freak revealed “Beast of Reincarnation,” a game scheduled for release next year on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Cloud.
In the year 4026, humanity is on the brink of extinction due to a malevolent creature that has contaminated all life with its noxious emission. Our last hope resides in Emma, a protagonist who embarks on a quest to vanquish the Beast of Reincarnation that has plagued her world. This is a post-apocalyptic rendition of Japan, and despite being a solo player’s game, Emma won’t be alone as she’ll have Koo, her faithful canine companion, by her side throughout this journey. The initial trailer for the game can be viewed below.
In the latest teaser, Xbox hints that Emma and Koo’s bond will unleash peculiar abilities, implying a significant part for our furry friend in defeating the game’s adversaries. Regarding combat, players should brace themselves for challenging, intricate battles, as suggested by the trailer’s glimpses into the opponents they might face. The primary foe depicted seems to be a mix of deer and plant life, with antlers reminiscent of a stag and flowers sprouting from its head near where Emma has inserted her sword. Additionally, there will be robot-like adversaries as well.
Currently, there’s not much information available about the game titled “Beast of Reincarnation“, but it seems to be quite a departure from the usual Game Freak productions. The creators behind Pokemon have been known to venture into diverse projects, ranging from 2D platformers such as “Drill Dozer” to adventure RPGs like “Pandoland“. Some of these games have bypassed the Nintendo platforms, like 2015’s “Tembo the Badass Elephant“. However, most of these projects appeared smaller in scale. On the other hand, “Beast of Reincarnation” already appears to be a substantial and promising new endeavor compared to these previous works.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into “Beast of Reincarnation” next year! Fingers crossed that it offers an exhilarating new journey from the minds behind Pokemon. Game Freak and publisher Fictions have confirmed that it will drop right away on Xbox Game Pass, which could draw a lot of attention when it launches sometime in 2026.
