As a seasoned Pokemon GO trainer, I can’t help but feel a mix of relief and disappointment upon hearing the news about the return of the “At A Raid” Friend List filter. On one hand, it’s fantastic to be able to coordinate Raids with my fellow trainers again, especially during those elusive Legendary events. On the other hand, the changes they’ve made feel like a bit of a letdown.

Enthusiasts of Pokemon GO experienced great joy when Niantic implemented a feature that enabled players to participate in Raids directly from their friend list. This made it incredibly convenient to locate and join Raids, simply by scouring for a comrade who was after the same Studded Jacket Snorlax or Toxtricity. However, this user-friendly enhancement mysteriously disappeared when Pokemon GO enthusiasts needed it most. The disappearance left players heartbroken, much like the initial surprise improvement. But there’s still a glimmer of hope!

Users lamented the loss of the Friends List raid feature with a mix of seriousness and humor, as numerous classic memes reappeared to say goodbye to an improvement in Pokémon GO that was seemingly taken too early. While it’s unclear if Friends List raids were meant to be a temporary or permanent addition, players will likely never know the truth. However, the Friends List raid feature has made its comeback once more.

Niantic hasn’t exactly been prompt in addressing player concerns in the past, but they seem to have stepped up their game lately. The Pokemon GO community has witnessed an unprecedented number of apology events this year, suggesting that reintroducing friend list raiding could be a response to the intense backlash over the removal of another useful Remote Raid feature. On the other hand, it’s also plausible that Niantic always planned to keep this feature and temporarily took it offline for some adjustments following the large-scale weekend event they had for testing purposes.

Regardless, gamers can once again sort their buddy list to identify those friends who are “At A Raid.” Nonetheless, Pokemon GO doesn’t often overdo it, and this feature won’t reappear without some modifications. Although players are eager to notice the filter coming back, they’ll eventually encounter a few obstacles that diminish its initial excitement somewhat.

The major changes to the returning friend list raid feature include:

  • Trainers who join via the Friend List can no longer invite other trainers to join
  • Trainers who join via the Friend List must wind up in the same Lobby as their friend. If the Lobby is full, players will be kicked out rather than added to a new Lobby
  • Nearby Feature means players can only join their friends participating in local raids – not Remote raids.

As a devoted Pokémon GO player myself, I can’t help but notice how seemingly small adjustments can significantly impact our gaming experience, particularly during bustling events and for trainers residing in rural areas. When playing amidst crowds, it isn’t uncommon for my lobby to fill up swiftly, leaving little room for fellow trainers from my friend list to join. Inviting friends to join a lobby is an effective strategy to ensure victory, so losing this feature from the initial release is quite disappointing.

It’s pleasing that trainers can reunite with their friends in Raids from their friend list again, yet numerous Pokemon GO trainers are expressing disappointment over these adjustments to a feature that was widely appreciated. As one player eloquently explains, “They can’t introduce a popular global-type feature without weakening it,” and another succinctly captures the sentiment with “In essence, they have taken away the enjoyable aspect of it once more.
