As a seasoned Pokemon Trainer with memories of catching my first Pikachu etched deeply into my heart, the announcement of the Pokemon Go Tour: Unova has me absolutely thrilled! The fifth generation of Pokemon games, particularly Pokemon Black and White, hold a special place for many of us old-school trainers. The introduction of changing seasons was a revolutionary feature back then, and I can’t wait to experience it in the game again, especially with the season-themed habitats rotating every hour.
In early 2025, there’s an upcoming Pokemon Go Tour with the main theme being the Unova region. The local events kick off in New Taipei City and Los Angeles from February 21st to the 23rd, followed by a global event on March 1st and 2nd. Players can anticipate a lot of content inspired by Pokemon Black and White, along with their sequels Black 2 and White 2. During this event, Masterwork Research will be accessible, offering players an exclusive chance to capture a Shiny Meloetta in Pokemon Go for the very first time.
In Pokemon Black and White, the series introduced a feature where seasons change, and two new creatures, Deerling and Sawsbuck, had four different forms each related to their respective season. During the Pokemon Go Tour: Unova, players will encounter season-themed habitats that switch every hour, allowing them to collect all four Deerling variations without waiting for actual seasons to change. For the first time in Pokemon Go, Shiny Deerling will be available during this event. The event’s rotating environments will include Winter Caverns, Spring Soiree, Summer Vacation, and Autumn Masquerade.
Across these environments, players can find an abundance of Pokemon initially introduced in the Unova region, such as Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. During this event, players who take photos will have a possibility to come across unique Pikachus donning hats and visors similar to the main characters from the four Unova video games – Hilbert, Hilda, Nate, and Rosa. Additionally, Shiny Bouffalant, Shiny Maractus, and Shiny Sigilyph will be accessible worldwide, and there’s a chance you’ll hatch them from 10 km Eggs. Lastly, the five Unown representing UNOVA will appear through Incense encounters.
Tickets for both of the live Pokémon Go events are now available for purchase on the official website. At present, an early bird discount is being offered. Those who can’t attend in person can still participate in the global event for free, which will include a unique storyline that continues from the local events. The focus of this narrative will be on the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom.
The fifth Pokemon generation has long been a fan favorite, so it’s nice to see Pokemon Black and White getting a big focus in the next Pokemon Go Tour. One of the big hooks in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 is that Reshiram and Zekrom were able to fuse with the Legendary Pokemon Kyurem. With fusions making their Pokemon Go debut last summer with Necrozma, Pokemon Go Tour: Unova would seem like the perfect place to bring in Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. Nothing has been said by Niantic about that possibility, but maybe that will change as the in-person and global dates get closer!
