As a longtime Pokémon enthusiast who can remember the days of trading cards and Gameboy Advance games, this recent development in Pokémon Go has me more excited than a Pikachu at a Thunderstone! The hints about Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon are like a tantalizing Whismur’s cry to my inner trainer.
Last month, the game Pokemon Go marked its eighth anniversary by releasing a piece of art that hinted at upcoming changes in the game. This anniversary artwork showed signs of content inspired by Pokemon Sword and Shield, such as the three Galar starters and an image of a Dynamax Wartortle. Although the feature to Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon hasn’t been added to Pokemon Go yet, there’s evidence suggesting it might be introduced soon. A fresh update has been rolled out in the game, and players can discover two categories labeled “?” and “???,” which contain symbols for Dynamax and Gigantamax respectively when they search for Special Pokemon!
An image of the symbols in Pokemon Go can be found below.
As a dedicated Pokémon Go fan, I can’t help but get excited by the recent hints that Dynamax and Gigantamax could soon be joining our game! However, we still don’t have a clear timeline for when this might happen. The details about how these features will function, particularly in terms of Raids and Trainer battles, are yet to be revealed. It’s speculative, but it could resemble the Mega Evolutions we know. But until an official announcement is made, nothing is set in stone. Interestingly, in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Dynamax and Gigantamax were only usable at Power Spots. Whether this will be the case for Pokémon Go remains to be seen.
The ongoing season of “Pokemon Go” is scheduled to end on September 3rd. As for what Niantic has planned following Shared Skies, it’s still unclear, but it appears that the upcoming theme will focus on the Galar region. Back then, a few Galar Pokemon like Mr. Rime, Perrserker, and Skwovet were introduced to the game, while most others were bypassed in favor of Pokemon from Paldea. This means that popular characters such as Cinderace, Morpeko, and Yamper have yet to make an appearance.
In its usual fashion, Pokemon Go jumps from one region to another, incorporating Pokemon and content inspired by various main series games. Although we might anticipate a season centered around Galar, it’s possible that the game will continue this pattern to introduce Pokemon absent from games like Sun and Moon and Scarlet and Violet. We can only hope for more insights into the game’s future directions in the upcoming weeks!
