First introduced in the heat of summer 2016, Pokemon Go has managed to maintain its position as a cherished mobile game for nearly nine years now. While the initial fervor among players has dwindled since that magical summer, Pokemon Go remains a favorite among many. Unfortunately, devoted players may find it challenging to complete their mission of “catching them all” due to the latest update in the game.
Starting July 10th, the game Pokemon Go is no longer compatible with 32-bit Android devices due to an update. This change was previously announced in January, but it seems that not all players were notified about this update before it happened. Given the events since then, such as the sale of the game to Scopely, it’s possible that the communication about this update could have been overlooked. Consequently, many players found themselves surprised when they encountered issues with the game on July 10th.

Currently, numerous Pokémon Go enthusiasts are finding that they can’t open the game due to an incompatibility error. When they attempt to run the game, they receive a message stating, “This app is no longer supported by your device. Reach out to the developers for further details.” Unfortunately, these gamers can neither install the latest update nor play the game, effectively putting an end to their Pokémon Go adventures unless they manage to acquire a new device.
Which Devices Are No Longer Supported for Pokemon Go
The official announcement concludes support for “Pokemon Go” on 32-bit Android devices. When they first announced this change, Niantic provided a list of affected Android phones to aid players in their preparations. However, it’s important to note that the list is not comprehensive, so some other device types might still be impacted even if they’re not mentioned in the following:
[List of Affected Devices]
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, J2, J3
- Sony Xperia Z2, Z3
- Motorola Moto G (1st gen), Nexus 6
- LG Fortune, Tribute
- OnePlus One
- HTC One (M8)
- ZTE Overture 3
- Certain Android devices released before 2015
On July 10th, the official @NianticHelp account reposted this update along with a comprehensive article detailing the change. However, some players have expressed disappointment that their relatively recent devices are affected by this change. While Niantic’s announcement primarily focuses on older devices released before 2015, it appears newer Android phones and tablets are also being impacted.

As a gamer, I’ve recently found myself in a predicament. I purchased a device just last year, hoping it would support the latest games. However, to my dismay, I discovered that even devices bought as recently as 2022 can no longer run certain games like Pokemon Go. It seems some Android models are still running on 32-bit OS, and surprisingly, Samsung is one of them. This revelation has left many Pokemon fans, including myself, feeling let down, as we thought our newer devices were safe from such limitations.
Starting from today, individuals playing Pokémon Go on a 32-bit Android device will no longer be able to continue their adventures in the game. This development is quite upsetting for those who can’t afford to upgrade their devices at this time. Regrettably, there seems to be no solution available to bypass this problem. If the developers decide not to retract their decision, Pokémon Go will become unplayable on any 32-bit Android device in the future.
