Pokemon Horizons Unveils First Look At New Anime Arc

As a lifelong fan of Pokémon who has witnessed Ash Ketchum’s journey from the very beginning, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and excitement as the series takes a new direction with Liko and Roy. The introduction of Rayquaza in the latest games and now in the anime is a testament to the enduring appeal of this franchise.

After more than a year since Ash Ketchum decided to hang up his trainer hat as the star of Pokémon, savoring his victory as the newest World Champion and taking Pikachu on off-screen journeys, a new duo, Liko and Roy, have taken over the spotlight. Unlike Ash, they’ve got their unique goals. As I embark on this trainers’ journey with them, Pokémon Horizons has unveiled a fresh arc that promises to introduce us to some pocket monsters familiar from Nintendo’s latest releases.

As a devoted gamer, I can tell you that Rayquaza made its debut in the third generation Pokémon games. But in the latest installments, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, this flying Pokémon has undergone a significant transformation. In the promotional artwork, we see a darker version of Rayquaza, hinting at a new challenge that will likely keep Liko and Roy occupied. Known as one of the series’ iconic characters, Rayquaza graced the cover of Pokémon Emerald and has continued to find innovative ways to reappear in the games, leaving its mark on both the gaming world and the anime universe.

In Japan, starting October 11th, the upcoming storyline of “Pokemon Horizons” will air on television. This new chapter takes place in Kitakami, a location showcased in the latest game’s expansion, and promises to present Liko and Roy with numerous challenges. Consistent with past adaptations, both the Rising Volt Tacklers and the Explorers are expected to play crucial roles in this next installment.

When Will Rayquaza Rising Hit Netflix?

For enthusiasts of Pokemon, it’s no secret that Horizons has been consistently dropping episode batches on Netflix. Though fans may have to endure a bit of waiting before this upcoming arc becomes available on the streaming service, Netflix has announced when Part Four is set to appear. Mark your calendars for November 22nd, as that’s the day you can tune in to catch the latest installment of Pokemon‘s anime episodes. With this addition, the current count will reach thirty-four episodes on the platform.

How Do Liko And Roy Differ From Ash?

So far in anime, it’s clear that Liko and Roy, the latest main trainers, are unlike Ash Ketchum in many ways. Instead of striving to be the most powerful trainers globally, they focus on guarding significant artifacts while evading the pursuit of the Explorers. Unlike Team Rocket, who often provided comic relief with their antics featuring Jesse, James, and Meowth, the new villainous group is more dedicated to their objectives and offer fewer humorous moments.

It’s not definitive that Ash will never be back in the series, as behind-the-scenes executives have previously hinted that there’s always a chance for Ketchum (Ash) to return. For years, Ash has been the main character in the anime adaptation, leading some to question whether the show can continue without him. However, the success of Pokemon Horizons demonstrates that the Pokemon world can flourish even if we’re not following Ash on his quest to become a “Pokemon Master”.

Curious about where Liko and Roy’s journey with Ash Ketchum will take them next? Excited to discover hidden truths in the upcoming Rayquaza Rising Arc set to premiere in Japan within the month?
