Pokémon Increases Card Production Amid High Demand

Over the past few months, it’s been challenging to find new items connected to the Pokemon Trading Card Game due to high demand and swift reselling on platforms such as eBay. However, The Pokemon Company has acknowledged this issue in a recent statement and is working towards improvement. To start, they plan to significantly boost the number of cards produced, not just for upcoming sets but also for those already affected, like Prismatic Evolutions.

To ensure a smooth supply of upcoming Pokémon TCG expansions, we’re ramping up production for an abundant supply on release day. We will also quickly reprint any affected products to refill stores like Pokémon Center, making them available as soon as possible.

Recently, representatives from The Pokemon Company discussed the current queue system employed at Pokemon Centers. This system was designed to manage busy periods and thwart resellers from exploiting new releases using bots. However, this week, it seems that the queue system didn’t function as intended, with fans moving through the queues only to have their orders cancelled nonetheless. The Pokemon Company’s statement did not delve into this specific issue, but they did mention that they will persist in finding solutions aimed at enhancing the overall experience for customers of Pokemon Center.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed some significant moves by The Pokemon Company to combat resellers. Not only have they implemented a queue system, but they’ve also added a limit on products sold at once for their official TCG vending machines, causing them to ‘cool down’ and prevent resellers from clearing out all stock at once. Physical Pokemon Center stores are even removing plastic wrapping from some items, making it easier for fans like me to purchase them directly.

Though these measures won’t completely stop resellers, they should encourage us to stop buying from online sellers instead. I believe the best way The Pokemon Company can tackle the current demand level is by increasing the amount of product available on shelves – that’s the most effective method I see.

There’s some doubt about whether the increased supply of goods came fast enough for the release of “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together,” set for March 28th. Some enthusiasts are frustrated by these shortages, but it’s important to remember that The Pokemon Company doesn’t gain from resellers inflating product prices. In fact, such scarcity may drive fans towards other options like “Lorcana.” It would be ideal if these cards end up with those truly invested in Pokemon, so let’s hope that happens going forward.
