Pokemon Is Teasing "Exciting" Detective Pikachu News This Week

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement as October 4th approaches. It’s been a year since Detective Pikachu Returns graced our Nintendo Switches, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news about its potential continuation.

On October 4th, we’ll hit the one-year mark since the release of “Detective Pikachu Returns” on Nintendo Switch, and it looks like The Pokemon Company is planning a special celebration for this milestone. According to the official Japanese Poke Times X/Twitter account, they hinted that they might share some exciting news that day, sparking curiosity about what exactly that could entail. Some fans are hoping it’s news about a sequel to the live-action movie, while others speculate it could be additional content for the game, such as DLC. However, it could also be something more modest, like a new anime short or merchandise release.

Thankfully, October 4th is just a few short days away, so we won’t have to wait long to find out! Detective Pikachu Returns offered a pretty definitive ending to the stories of Tim and Harry Goodman, but director Yasunori Yanagisawa has expressed an interest in continuing the series. In an interview with ComicBook last year, Yanagisawa said that “there is a desire to grow Detective Pikachu’s story. We’re hoping that there’s some continuation.” If this is DLC or the announcement of a new game, it will be interesting to see how the developers find ways to expand on the overall story.

It appears that the question about a follow-up film to Pokemon: Detective Pikachu has lingered, given its ongoing production status. The original movie concluded with few unresolved plot points, leading fans to ponder how a sequel might be feasible. Justice Smith, who played a role in the movie, mentioned earlier this year that he’s “on standby” for a call, but whether such a sequel will materialize remains uncertain.

Although a fresh video game update or a new movie installment could indeed be “thrilling,” fans should perhaps moderate their anticipation. It’s peculiar that this announcement was made through the Poké Times X/Twitter platform instead of the main Pokemon accounts, in either Japanese or English. If it were major news, we’d likely hear about it there, or possibly on Nintendo’s platforms. This account might be legitimate, but it’s unusual that it hasn’t been widely shared elsewhere. For now, we can only wait to find out what will unfold on Friday!
