Pokemon Legends: Z-A Confirmed for Switch, Not Switch 2: Major Disappointment Revealed!

Last year, on Pokemon Day, when they announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A for Nintendo Switch, I and many other fans were taken aback. We thought the next Pokemon game would grace Nintendo’s anticipated successor to the Switch, not our current console. Over the past year, I’ve held onto hope that maybe, just maybe, it would be released on the so-called “Switch 2.” But it looks like those hopes won’t be realized. According to Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, everything unveiled during next month’s Pokemon Presents is destined for our current Switch, and will merely be playable on the new system thanks to backwards compatibility.

According to Grubb, it was mentioned that the upcoming Pokemon Direct content will be referred to as games designed for the first Nintendo Switch. These games will also function on the second version of the Nintendo Switch, but they won’t have any features specifically tailored for the new console, which is a common practice for The Pokemon Company.

As a dedicated Pokémon gamer, I’ve come to expect this routine: Although it’s disheartening when new Pokémon games aren’t immediately available on the latest Nintendo console, it’s not entirely unexpected. The Pokémon Company, particularly Game Freak, have a history of waiting for new hardware to launch before releasing their titles. Case in point, during the Switch’s debut holiday season, we got Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on the 3DS instead of the Switch. We had to wait an entire year for Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, and not until 2019 did we finally get our hands on Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Due to the subpar performance of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on the Nintendo Switch, fans speculated that Pokemon Legends: Z-A would be optimized for an upgraded Switch model. The recent generation of Pokemon games have been commercially successful, but their performance left much to be desired in terms of frame rate. Recognizing these criticisms, both The Pokemon Company and Game Freak are working to improve the quality of future titles. If Pokemon Legends: Z-A were to run on Switch 2, it could potentially ensure a smoother gameplay experience. However, it’s hoped that the game won’t require such an upgrade to deliver an engaging experience.

Currently, information regarding “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is scarce. What we do know is that it’s due for release this year and it will center around the Kalos region featured in “Pokemon X and Y”. There are whispers that the game might be set entirely within Lumiose City, a significant location from that particular generation. The Pokémon Company has hinted at the return of Mega Evolutions, a feature that’s been relatively absent from the franchise recently. This revival is also expected to influence the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Mark your calendars for February 27th, as that’s when Pokemon Day is happening! With less than a month left, we’re eagerly anticipating updates about “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, and other upcoming plans from The Pokemon Company. After a long wait for more details on the game, let’s hope the Pokemon Presents will ignite excitement among fans, regardless if it’s designed for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 or not.
