As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon adventures under my belt, I must say, the prospect of Ride Pokémon making a comeback in Pokémon Legends: Z-A has me more excited than Pikachu on a sugar rush! The idea of seamlessly switching between different boarding targets on land, sea, and air sounds like an exhilarating gameplay mechanic that could breathe fresh life into the franchise.
After the announcement of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, not much has been disclosed about its details. However, from a patent filed by The Pokemon Company and Nintendo, we can infer that Ride Pokemon will make a comeback in an upcoming game. The patent doesn’t specifically mention Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but it does hint at the ability to switch between multiple rideable objects seamlessly on land, sea, and air. Given that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the only announced Pokemon game for a Nintendo platform, it seems reasonable to assume its connection to this feature.
The patent contains many complex legal terms which can be challenging to understand. One section discusses a new feature where if the player character is on either the ground or water target object, and they perform a jump based on a second input command, then if a first input command is given during this jump, the player character will board an air target object and gain the ability to move through the air. In simpler terms, it seems that the player will be able to jump from one flying Pokemon to another by pressing buttons at the right time, making the process of switching between Ride Pokemon more intricate and potentially more enjoyable. This update might make the experience of swapping between Ride Pokemon more engaging due to its added complexity.
Z-A, will adopt a similar approach by using a single Pokemon for all travel purposes. However, hints from the patent suggest that the new game may revert to having multiple Pokemon, each fulfilling unique roles.
In essence, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is derived from “Pokemon X and Y”, the initial mainline Pokemon game launched on Nintendo 3DS. Notably, this game introduced places where trainers could ride their Pokemon, albeit only in designated zones. One instance was Gogoat, a Pokemon that could be ridden within Lumiose City. Given that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is set in Lumiose City, it’s speculated that players might utilize Gogoat or other similar Pokemon to traverse the city more easily.
At present, Pokemon enthusiasts find themselves in anticipation, eagerly awaiting the unveiling of details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A over the next few months. As of now, the specific release date remains elusive, with only a broad 2025 timeframe hinted at. Here’s hoping that we’ll be privy to more information about the game, including a more precise launch window, in the near future.
