Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Announces Full Shiny Rayquaza Details

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Pokemon and a knack for chasing after shiny variants, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming Shiny Rayquaza event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! The anticipation has been building ever since the first whispers of its arrival surfaced, and now that we have more concrete details, it’s time to gear up for the challenge.

Players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are soon to get an opportunity to enrich their Nintendo Switch game by capturing the Shiny Rayquaza. Details about the Tera Raid event have been gradually unveiled over the past few weeks, but Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have now disclosed more specifics. The event commences on Thursday, December 19th at 4 p.m. Pacific Time and runs through Sunday, January 5th at 3:59 p.m. Pacific Time. During this period, players will encounter Shiny Rayquaza in 5-Star Tera Raids where it will possess the Dragon Tera type. As previously thought, this Pokemon can be caught only once per save file.

In this announcement, The Pokemon Company has crafted an exclusive animated video showcasing Shiny Rayquaza soaring over Paldea. Most of the trailer concentrates on characters from Scarlet and Violet, both human and Pokemon, who are seen on the ground below, while the magnificent Legendary Pokemon glides through the heavens above. The trailer keeps the details about the event under wraps until the end, but it’s a must-see for Pokemon enthusiasts, and it provides viewers with a closer look at Shiny Rayquaza’s design.

During this ongoing event, every player gets multiple chances to attempt catching Rayquaza, the legendary Pokemon, as many times as they want. This gives players an opportunity to assist one another in defeating the legendary creature. Upon capturing a Shiny Rayquaza, players will receive alternative rewards like Tera Shards instead. The Pokemon Company hints that Shiny Rayquaza may be made available again in future events; however, since its return isn’t guaranteed, it is advised to make the most of this opportunity while it lasts.

Besides the Shiny Rayquaza special event, gamers can eagerly anticipate Mass Outbursts in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where they’ll encounter Pokemon that have their own Shiny forms, similar to Rayquaza but black instead. Among these are Fraxure, Carbink, and Cetoddle, each with a higher likelihood of appearing as Shiny! The Mass Outbursts will coincide with the Shiny Rayquaza event.

Players should be aware that Shiny Rayquaza is vulnerable to Ice and Fairy-type attacks, so it’s wise to prepare a Pokemon with those moves and possibly one that can Terastallize into these types. For those needing help, The Pokemon Company has announced a three-part Tera Raid preparation series in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Each week leading up to the event, different pairs of Pokemon will appear in Tera Raids: Corviknight and Bellibolt (from November 28th to December 5th), Azumarill and Clodsire (December 5th to December 12th), and Annihilape and Kingambit (December 12th to December 19th). This will give players an opportunity to catch these Pokemon that could potentially aid them against Shiny Rayquaza.
