Collecting the Pokemon Trading Card Game can sometimes be frustrating due to resellers snatching up products before fans get a chance, either in stores or online. Fortunately, the official Pokemon Center website offers a direct purchase option from The Pokemon Company, but items often sell out rapidly, as demonstrated by the quick sale of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions. In an attempt to address this issue, The Pokemon Company is introducing a new queue system on their website.
Last week, as reported by PokeBeach, we saw the introduction of a queue system when some Pokémon Trading Card Game products were restocked. This system seems to be put in place during periods of heavy traffic, making us wait in a virtual line before gaining access. Leaving the page or refreshing won’t secure your spot – you’ll have to wait your turn. The Pokemon Company hasn’t explicitly mentioned this is to thwart resellers, but it’s pretty obvious what they’re trying to do! They’re also working tirelessly at full speed to produce enough cards to match the current demand level.
It’s clear that the current situation doesn’t prevent fights over Pokemon cards in Costco stores or stock shortages at retailers such as Target and Walmart. Each store must enact changes independently if they want to alter these issues in their physical locations. History has shown us instances where certain Walmart and Target outlets took extreme steps, like removing all Pokemon merchandise from their shelves due to customer misconduct in 2021. However, such drastic actions might not be ideal for The Pokemon Company this time.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but notice the buzz surrounding the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) these days. The latest set, Prismatic Evolutions, has created quite a stir due to overwhelming retailer demand compared to the available supply. I also suspect that the popularity of the new Pokémon TCG Pocket edition might have something to do with it. It’s possible that things will cool down a bit, as they often do with any game, following the usual ebb and flow.
It’s hoped that the steps The Pokemon Company is taking will provide some relief for fans when the upcoming Pokemon TCG set debuts next month. In North America, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together, launching on March 28th, will introduce over 180 cards translated into English for the first time. This new set is expected to attract both novice and seasoned players due to the return of Trainer’s Pokemon in the game.
