As a long-time Pokémon Trading Card Game enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of this beloved franchise since its humble beginnings in 1996, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the ongoing debate about deck limits in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
It’s been announced that the Pokemon TCG Pocket version will be receiving some fresh booster packs this month. As of now, we don’t have much information regarding these packs, but one thing many enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating is additional slots for decks. In the current game setup, players can only maintain a maximum of 15 decks at once. Once they reach this limit, they must delete existing decks to make space for new creations. With more cards come more potential strategies, so players are hoping that the game will provide them with more flexibility to explore new tactics without having to discard their current work.
There hasn’t been any official explanation given on why there is a 15-deck limit in the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, but users on its subreddit have been brainstorming about it, along with potential workarounds. Some believe that the limitation could be due to memory constraints, as allowing unlimited deck creation might consume significant extra space. Others speculate that the developers may intend to offer additional slots, which players would need to purchase using in-game currency or through benefits from the Premium Pass. While this is just speculation at this point, it wouldn’t be out of character for a game like Pokemon Go, which also charges players to increase the number and storage space of their items.
It’s plausible that the creators of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket might not feel the need to alter the current deck limit. To be honest, 15 cards in a deck is quite a high limit, and most players likely stick with fewer cards on a routine basis. Given that there are only 10 types of Pokemon in TCG Pocket (including Colorless), this leaves plenty of space for players to construct at least one unique deck for every type, along with an additional 5 decks. This is quite significant, and it’s unlikely that many players will frequently switch between that many decks, except for the most dedicated enthusiasts.
Looking forward to observing the growth of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, given its relatively recent launch a month ago. Over time, we can anticipate modifications and updates, as the TCG has undergone significant transformations since its inception in 1996. It’s reasonable to assume that these changes will also apply to the digital version. However, whether players might construct new decks in the future is still uncertain!
