Pokemon TCG Pocket Reveals Top Decks—But Pikachu ex and Celebi ex Are Missing

It’s not hidden anymore that Darkrai ex is dominating the gameplay in Pokemon TCG Pocket, continuing its reign even after the arrival of Celestial Guardians. Recent findings from the mobile app reveal that the Legendary Dark-type build is highly favored among many players, alongside a few other choices. Interestingly, it appears that one favorite deck has lost its popularity as suggested by the latest data.

In the world of Pokemon TCG Pocket, the composition of top decks frequently undergoes change. A new card can disrupt an existing deck’s structure, or a powerful one might debut in a fresh expansion. Surprisingly, some popular cards have managed to maintain their dominance in build lists, consistently outperforming in competitive battles with minor adjustments to each deck’s composition.

A recent analysis from the Pokemon TCG Pocket has compiled a list of popular characters based on in-game data, featuring players’ preferred picks.

Darkrai ex and Giratina ex Take The Gold

On their official Pokemon TCG Pocket account, they recently published a social media post revealing the top-used decks from March 27 to April 26, 2025.

Even though we’ve entered the A3 season, I thought I’d still bring up an interesting analysis of the top decks from the last season!

Does it match up with your expectations? It’s great to see Beedrill ex making an appearance!

These decks rank as follows:

  1. Darkrai ex & Giratina ex – 7.12% usage
  2. Darkrai ex, Giratina ex & Druddigon – 4.63% usage
  3. Gyarados ex, Manaphy & Origin Forme Palkia – 4.63% usage
  4. Charizard ex & Moltres ex – 3.52% usage
  5. Mewtwo ex & Giratine ex – 3.18% usage
  6. Exeggutor ex & Meowscarada – 2.23% usage
  7. Weavile ex & Darkrai ex – 2.15% usage
  8. Beedrill ex, Meowscarada – 2.14% usage
  9. Gallade, Hitmonlee & Marshadow – 2.03% usage
  10. Mew ex, Dialga ex, Arceus ex & Shaymin – 1.68% usage

From this analysis, it’s clear that certain builds won’t be unexpected for fans. Charizard ex and Moltres ex have been top-notch Fire choices since the launch of Pokemon TCG Pocket, delivering reliable energy acceleration and fire force. With the introduction of Rare Candy in Celestial Guardians, the efficiency of the deck increases even further.

Nevertheless, some enthusiasts might have observed that a notably contentious card choice has significantly diminished in usage.

Initially, when Pokemon TCG Pocket was introduced, there was a high demand for the Pikachu ex deck among players. The electric mouse proved to be highly effective in battles due to its minimal evolutionary stages, affordable Energy requirements, and powerful attacks. If a Pikachu ex could be swiftly established on the battlefield, it often dealt with the opponent before they had an opportunity to prepare their own deck.

Despite Pikachu ex’s construction losing some momentum compared to Darkrai ex, it’s unexpected that it wasn’t utilized much during the period when the rankings data was gathered. In fact, even complex decks like Mew ex appear to be more widely used.

This might signal that it’s time for a new expansion in Pokemon TCG Pocket, offering more effective Electric-type strategies. Perhaps by introducing novel methods for Energy acceleration, or new Pokemon to complement Pikachu ex, thereby enhancing the existing deck’s ability to compete against the popular and dominant options in the competitive arena.

A highly sought-after deck earlier this year, despite its scarcity now, is the Celebi ex deck. Initially, many Trainers aimed to use the combination of Celebi ex and Serperior. Although there was some gamble with coin flipping, the Energy manipulation with Serperior’s ability made it extremely difficult for opponents to defeat once established. The resurgence of Celebi ex can be attributed to Rare Candy in the last two weeks, suggesting its potential return in future popularity rankings.

Although some Pokemon TCG Pocket players might find themselves weary of continually facing off against Darkrai ex and Giratina ex in competitive play, it seems that these Dark-type and Psychic-type cards are unlikely to be replaced from the top decks for a while. Fervent fans of Pikachu ex may one day see their beloved partner return to the list of dominant decks.
