As a seasoned Pokemon Trading Card Game enthusiast who has been collecting since the days of Charizard and Blastoise, I must say, this upcoming promotion is music to my ears! With my childhood memories still fresh, the thought of adding the new starters Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Terapagos to my collection brings a sense of nostalgia that’s hard to beat.

As a dedicated Pokémon TCG fan, I’m excited to share that starting next month, if you spend $15 on eligible Pokémon cards at participating retailers, you’ll get not one, but two free promo cards! These special cards feature Pokémon that made their debut in the highly anticipated games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. You’ll find Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Terapagos among them, all bearing the distinctive Pokémon Horizons: The Series stamp. To collect all four of these Paldean starter cards along with Terapagos, you’ll need approximately $45 in purchases, as each starter card comes with a Terapagos pairing. Keep your eyes peeled for these card two-packs at the following North American retailers: [Retailer List]

Best Buy: Fuecoco and Terapagos

GameStop: Sprigatito and Terapagos

Pokemon Center: Quaxly and Terapagos

The marketing for these promo cards kicks off on November 8th, coinciding with the North American release of the Surging Sparks expansion. This timing is quite convenient since Pokemon TCG enthusiasts will have a multitude of fresh products to invest in that day. This should increase the appeal of obtaining these promo cards, especially compared to releasing them when there’s nothing new available. For those unaware, Surging Sparks is an expansion that includes cards from various sets already released in Japan, such as the recently debuted SuperCharged Breaker. In total, the expansion will offer over 250 cards.

It remains unclear whether the GameStop and Best Buy promotions for the Surging Sparks products will be accessible online or only at their physical stores, and if this rule applies to those who have already preordered these items. At present, neither company’s website provides any details about the promotion. With the release of Surging Sparks and its associated promo cards imminent in a fortnight, more information should surface soon. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Pokemon Center offers free shipping for orders exceeding $20, which is only $5 beyond the threshold required to get the Quaxly and Terapagos promo pack.

It’s unclear why these promo cards were marked with a Pokemon Horizons stamp, other than the fact that these four Pokemon are central figures in the animated series. Unlike the show, there is no appearance of the cast alongside these Pokemon, and the artwork doesn’t seem to resemble the style used on the show. The only plausible reason seems to be that The Pokemon Company wants to maintain interest in the upcoming episodes, which will air on November 22nd. Currently, the series is available for streaming on Netflix, featuring a new set of main characters after Ash Ketchum’s departure.
