On January 17th, the upcoming expansion for the Pokemon Trading Card Game, titled “Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions“, is set to debut in North America. This new collection will primarily feature Eevee and its evolutionary forms, making it a must-have for fans. Notably, this set is classified as “special”, meaning booster packs can only be obtained through larger purchases like booster bundles or the Elite Trainer Box. However, there are concerns that demand may outstrip supply due to anticipation. As per a recent report from PokeBeach, smaller retailers are receiving 10%-15% less product than they originally requested from distributors.
In the case of the Prismatic Evolutions set for the Pokemon Trading Card Game, while the total quantity of products remains unchanged from previous special sets, it will be distributed among a greater number of retailers. Notably, there’s a Pokemon specialty store named Player 1 Services in Maryland. As shared by owner Ben DeGuire, numerous stores that typically don’t stock Pokemon merchandise have expressed interest in Prismatic Evolutions. To meet the increased demand, The Pokemon Company has had to allocate less product to each store compared to usual.
DeGuire explained to PokeBeach that there simply isn’t enough Pokemon product to satisfy demand. However, loyal distributors are still prioritizing established stores like mine. The issue is that the limited supply is spread thin due to high demand from other stores. On a strategic level, distributors aim to distribute the product to as many stores as possible in order to maintain as many accounts as they can.
DeGuire continues to explain that stores which predicted a surge in product demand may have had to cancel pre-orders for the latest Pokemon collection, Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions. The Pokemon Center’s official website indicates that all pre-orders for this item are already exhausted. Although PokeBeach predicts that big retailers will receive their usual share of products, escalating demand might result in items being snapped up by resellers and listed on marketplaces such as eBay. This issue was quite prevalent a few years back, and there’s apprehension that the same scenario could recur.
According to PokeBeach, it’s been observed that many eBay listings have overpriced Prismatic Evolutions cards before the set’s release. But it’s uncertain how many people are actually purchasing these items; a search on eBay reveals numerous listings, but they’re all “Buy It Now” options instead of auctions. The high prices could simply be sellers hoping for a higher price, and the costs might decrease significantly if The Pokemon Company can fulfill demand.
With Eevee’s fame and its various “Eeveelutions,” it’s clear that the new collection Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions is likely to generate significant interest. Fingers crossed that The Pokemon Company takes notice of both retailer requests and fan enthusiasm, and takes steps to provide enough stock. Some of the Prismatic Evolutions merchandise will debut this month, while other items will be rolled out throughout the year, including a special box and mini tins set for release in February.
