Pokemon x McDonald’s Collab Sets a Date for These Promo Cards

Fans of the Pokemon Trading Card Game in the U.S. have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the next McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion for several months now. Last year, a Pokemon TCG promotion was launched in France, focusing on the Year of the Dragon theme. As we move into the Year of the Snake, the theme has subtly shifted, but it appears that the cards are set to be released in our region later this month. Each Happy Meal will come with a booster pack containing four promotional cards, one of which will be a holo. The majority of these cards will showcase Dragon-type characters such as Drampa and Dragonite, but favorites like Pikachu and Charizard will also be included.

Based on reports from Poke Beach, the Pokemon Dragon Discovery Happy Meal promotion is set to debut in the U.S. on January 21st and will continue until February 24th. This new campaign follows the ongoing promotion focusing on Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It seems that four distinct Happy Meal options will be available, featuring Charizard, Dragonite with Pikachu, Rayquaza, and Roaring Moon Pokemon. Alongside the cards, these meals will also come with stickers and a double-sided poster. Notably, collectors of the Pokemon Trading Card Game should take note that the cards offered in this promotion have been seen before but may exhibit minor variations in holos and card numbering.

Currently, neither McDonald’s nor The Pokemon Company have announced when the Happy Meal promotion featuring Pokemon will start. Since restaurant offerings may differ, Pokemon enthusiasts might want to contact their local McDonald’s to confirm before planning a visit. Typically, McDonald’s permits buying a toy without a full Happy Meal, but for past Pokemon promotions, they have refrained from doing so due to issues with resellers making it difficult for fans and children to obtain the cards. As of now, it is uncertain whether this policy will apply to the Dragon Discovery promotion; however, it’s likely that a similar approach might be taken.

Kicking off 2025 with the Pokemon Dragon Discovery Happy Meal at McDonald’s could be a fantastic beginning for fans of the series. The upcoming year looks promising for the Pokemon franchise. Mark your calendars for February 27th, as it’s just three days after the annual Pokemon Day, which is when The Pokemon Company traditionally shares updates about new releases. This year’s event promises to be particularly exciting, as the much-anticipated game Pokemon Legends: Z-A is expected to launch on Nintendo Switch in 2025. It’s been a while since we last heard about this game during last year’s Pokemon Day, so an update is definitely in order. We might even get some insights into the rumored TCG sets inspired by the game!
