Exactly five years ago, yesterday if you will (we admit we’re a little behind), Sony unveiled the acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Instead of following the familiar style and mood seen in the inFAMOUS series, Ghost of Tsushima represented Sucker Punch’s passion for everything related to samurai films, as showcased by its stunning Japanese setting and intense sword-fighting encounters. This open-world game soon gained popularity among fans due to its captivating atmosphere.
After its initial release, Sucker Punch continued to enrich the action-packed tale by introducing the excellent Iki Island expansion, as well as a Director’s Cut version for PlayStation 5.
Notably, it also gained a unique cooperative multiplayer experience called Legends, an aspect that has been undeservedly underestimated by many (our viewpoint).
Upon its release, we awarded Ghost of Tsushima a ‘superb’ 9/10, commending its immersive open-world structure and engaging, rewarding combat system. To us, it seemed to perfect the standard open-world blueprint, albeit with some critics pointing out its excessive use of conventional map markers as a potential flaw.
Five years on, we’d like to hear your thoughts about Ghost of Tsushima. Has your admiration for Jin Sakai’s journey grown over the past five years, or have its allures faded with time? Cast your vote in our polls and share your reasoning, with a touch of honor, in the comments section below.
