According to tech specialists Digital Foundry, their preliminary analysis of DOOM: The Dark Ages has been less than satisfactory for PlayStation 5 gamers, particularly those who have invested in the pricier PlayStation 5 Pro model.
On both Sony consoles, there are noticeable drops in frame rate, falling short of the desired 60 frames per second during intense scenes. To add to the issue, the Xbox Series X appears to be more stable with fewer drops, which might suggest that less focus and refinement were given to the PlayStation versions of these games.
Although the PS5 Pro can reach resolutions up to 1800p, it doesn’t offer many other significant enhancements compared to its standard version. Moreover, there’s no application of PSSR (PlayStation Scene Reconstruction) for image upscaling in this model.
Digital Foundry notes that this update for the PS5 Pro isn’t particularly thrilling compared to recent releases from AAA games, and it’s hard to disagree with their assessment. It seems that the developer id Software has primarily focused on optimizing the Xbox Series X version, resulting in decent but unremarkable performances across other console editions.
Here’s hoping that upcoming updates enhance the gaming experience on PlayStation even more, and take full advantage of the PS5 Pro’s increased power.
