The hit PS4 game is getting pulled off the PlayStation Store and discontinued. However, there’s a silver lining for those using PS5 and PS5 Pro as they’ll receive a brand-new, upgraded edition of the same game, completely free if they already own it on PS4. Sadly, this change isn’t so rosy for the numerous PS4 users out there. To be precise, the PS4 version will no longer be available for purchase on May 29, and its servers will be shut down around October. Unfortunately, a specific timeline for the server closure hasn’t been announced yet.
The game under discussion is Rust, one of the top-rated games from the previous console generation. This multiplayer survival game, developed by Facepunch Studios and Double Eleven, initially appeared through early access in 2013 but didn’t officially launch until 2018. Interestingly, Rust was originally designed as a clone of DayZ within a well-known mod for ARMA 2. However, its popularity soon eclipsed that of the original game.
2021 was when Rust debuted on both PlayStation 4 (and Xbox One), and surprisingly, the game’s removal and shutdown occurred quite rapidly afterward. Given the age of the PlayStation 4, it’s not unexpected that these two platforms aren’t rushing to upgrade to the next generation or even abandoning the PS4 completely.
Double Eleven has announced they’re eager to disclose additional information about the impending launch of Rust Console Edition on next-generation consoles. Their team is actively preparing for a summer release, targeting both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, please note that this date could potentially change. As we approach the final stages of setting the official release date, rest assured we’ll inform everyone promptly!
The game will be available in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. We’ll soon unveil the benefits and prices for each edition, along with upgrade options if you decide to switch between editions on the same platform.
As we shift our primary focus towards the thrilling future of Rust Console Edition on next-gen consoles, we will be concluding support for the current-gen edition in late October, coinciding with the end of that wipe. To commemorate this transition, we’re planning a special event: the ‘Wipe of Wipes’, an emotional farewell to celebrate the legacy of old-gen Rust Console Edition. By then, the new-gen version will already be accessible, allowing you to seamlessly move into this exciting new phase of Rust Console Edition.
It’s worth mentioning that it seems the same applies to the Xbox One edition. Unlike the PlayStation Store, which clearly states the game will no longer be for sale starting May 29, the Microsoft Store does not carry such a notice, leaving some ambiguity about the availability of the Xbox One version of the game.
