Popular PS4 Game Updated Leaving Millions of PlayStation Fans Missing Content

As a seasoned gamer with decades of PlayStation gaming under my belt, I find myself disheartened by the recent update to Payday 2. Having played this game since its release in 2013 and witnessed its meteoric rise, I’ve seen it evolve from a cult classic to a mainstay in the gaming community. The removal of content, particularly the John Wick and Point Break DLC, feels like a punch in the gut for us long-time fans who have stuck by this game through thick and thin.

10 years ago, a widely played PS4 game – originally released in 2013 alongside other highly acclaimed titles like Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us – received an update, causing disappointment for its massive fanbase of over 40 million PlayStation gamers due to missing content. Some of the other games that were popular during that year include Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, DOTA 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Europa Universalis IV, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, The Stanley Parable, Pikmin 3, Saints Row IV, Tomb Raider, The Wolf Among Us, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and many more. Among these games, Payday 2 was particularly well-liked, selling over 40 million copies within just a decade.

As we move towards 2024, it’s no longer as widely played as it once was, but it continues to be enjoyed by many. This is partly because it’s available for free on several subscription services like PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. Despite the release of its successor, Payday 3, in the previous year, Payday 2 still garners more attention. This isn’t just a reflection of its enduring popularity, but also the less than favorable reception of Payday 3.

As a long-time gamer who has been following this particular game since its release, I was quite disappointed to learn that the latest update has removed some of the content from the game. Fortunately, those who already own the game won’t be affected by this change, but anyone downloading it moving forward will miss out on that content. This is frustrating because I know many PlayStation fans like me who have been enjoying the game through PS Plus Extra or Premium, and now we find ourselves without access to some of the previously enjoyed content. It’s a reminder of how quickly things can change in the gaming world and the importance of savoring every moment with our favorite games before they are altered beyond recognition.

The game’s soundtrack has been streamlined, eliminating some music that had expired licenses. Additionally, extra content related to John Wick and Point Break DLC is no longer available in the game. However, if you already owned the game prior to these changes, you can still access this content. Unfortunately, for those who didn’t own it before, this content is no longer accessible. It’s possible that the licenses could be renewed, but they were not renewed before these alterations were made.
