Power Rangers and D&D Fans Freaking Out Over Rumors Elon Musk Could Buy Hasbro

As a cinephile who has grown up with the magic of ’90s television, I must admit that the prospect of Elon Musk acquiring Hasbro sends shivers down my spine. I remember the excitement of waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch Power Rangers and Transformers, and the joy of playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends late into the night.

Previously, Elon Musk expressed interest in acquiring Twitter, and eventually, the deal was finalized. This move sparked various changes, one being the rebranding of Twitter to ‘X’. Notably, ‘X’ is among several businesses that Musk manages. Now, an intriguing question arises: What if one of those companies was Hasbro? Such a speculation has been stirred after Musk suggested it on social media platforms. The concept of Musk taking over Hasbro, the company behind Power Rangers, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony, has sent fans of these franchises into an excited frenzy.

Previously, Musk sparked conversations when he announced that his firm, xAI, was planning to establish an AI-focused game studio with the aim of “revitalizing games.” However, this recent plan has caused a stir across various franchise circles because of the numerous properties that Hasbro currently controls.

Everything kicked off on November 22nd, when Musk engaged with a tweet from Grummz which criticized the foreword in The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons book, highlighting its problematic language, attitudes, and stereotypes from the first version. In the discussion that followed, Musk voiced his strong support for E. Gary Gygax and the creators of Dungeons & Dragons, stating emphatically that no one should speak ill of them.

After November 27th, Jason Tondro, Project Lead for Dungeons & Dragons and Senior Designer at Wizards of the Coast, was questioned about the response to Musk’s remarks and any backlash in general. Tondro replied, “I hadn’t thought I would upset the ‘grognards.’ In retrospect, it’s clear now, but I still don’t give much weight to those criticisms. I view such people as not worth paying attention to, so I didn’t foresee their anger.

In reaction to Ian Miles Cheong’s tweet regarding Tondro’s statement, Musk replied by asking, “How much does Hasbro cost?” This comment sparked a lot of conversation on social media, with @antonia_paz_a sharing a GIF of eyes on fire and expressing, “I just had a vision of what a Power Rangers team backed by Elon Musk might look like.
AAAAH AAAAAAH AAAAH

In simpler terms, @SinxGod_4 expressed concern that if Elon Musk gains control over Transformers and Power Rangers, it’s a reality he doesn’t wish to experience, while @jorditweetedtht conveyed similar feelings using a puzzled GIF, stating that the Power Rangers franchise is now in jeopardy. @ArtVilmundur also shares this dislike for the idea, stating that he doesn’t want Elon Musk to have any involvement with the Power Rangers.

Regarding games like Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, and G.I. Joe, there’s a general sentiment that Elon Musk might not be the best fit for gameplay. PrismaticWastes humorously expressed, “I can’t imagine anyone I’d less want to play D&D with than Elon Musk, lol”. Alec joined in, saying, “EL*N STOP BUYING AND RUINING EVERYTHING CHALLENGE”, while andrewscomet stated, “This is the worst news ever. He would definitely ruin it.

Option A: “@LatinLegacy” said, “A person is attempting to cause as much chaos as possible by doing side tasks,” and “@Unity07s” responded, “If Elon ruins DnD, I might just go insane.” While it’s possible that Musk buying Hasbro is just a way to create controversy, who knows for sure.
