The Powerpuff Girls have been generating a lot of buzz lately, either due to leaks about the live-action adaptation or their appearance in the recent crossover with Jellystone called “Crisis on Infinite Mirths.” Interestingly, musicians Playboi Carti and Kendrick Lamar have honored one of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup’s most formidable enemies. As animation and anime continue to dominate the music scene, fans might be taken aback to find Mojo Jojo making headlines in such a unique way. Although there are no plans for his return yet, the enduring impact of this memorable cartoon villain remains fresh in our minds.
The new tune is now playable on Apple Music; just click here to listen to it. Interestingly, the song makes a humorous reference to the villain from Cartoon Network by Carti saying “smashin’ on all the h**s, Mojo Jojo,” which refers to the physical fights that this intelligent ape character has inflicted upon the cartoon superheroes in the past. Remarkably, this blend of cartoons and music isn’t unique as a green-skinned villain from the Powerpuff Girls has also appeared in the music world. In fact, you might find it surprising to know that an antagonist from Cartoon Network was once part of a well-known rock band for a while.
The Powerpuff Gorillaz
The Gorillaz have evolved into an extraordinary psychedelic group since their debut in the music industry, and it’s possible you may not remember or realize this, but Ace from The Powerpuff Girls was once a member of the band for a while. In 2018, the leader of the Gangreen Gang joined the Gorillaz ranks, assuming the role of bass player when Murdoc, another band member, was incarcerated in their fictional narrative. He became an official Gorilla and appeared on the band’s sixth album as well as in music videos, which could have been as noteworthy as Mojo Jojo’s latest musical collaboration.
Why Mojo’s Jellystone Appearance is a Must Watch
Among the numerous characters from Cartoon Network who reappeared in Crisis on Infinite Earths, it was Mojo Jojo who had the most screen time. Infatuated with the bear Cindy, Mojo endeavored to resolve the multiverse crisis that affected the world once populated exclusively by Hanna Barbera characters. Characters from The Powerpuff Girls, Regular Show, Ed, Edd, ‘N Eddy, Samurai Jack, and numerous other Cartoon Network shows converged in Yogi Bear’s territory. As Cindy and Mojo discovered they had several intellectual affinities, they found themselves embroiled in a star-crossed love story.
Interestingly enough, Mojo did appear in the recently leaked trailer for the cursed live-action adaptation; however, unlike his original character, he was not a primate. Instead, it seems that the CW pilot intended to introduce two new characters called Mojo and Jojo, who were ordinary humans with a grudge against Townsville’s top superheroes. Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed, it could have made for an intriguing twist if the live-action version of the green-skinned character eventually resembled his original self more closely.
