Predator: Badlands Movie Reportedly Begins Filming

As a die-hard fan of the Alien and Predator franchises, I’ve seen more than my fair share of intergalactic carnage. The recent success of Alien: Romulus has left me craving for more, and it looks like Predator is ready to satiate that hunger with Predator: Badlands!

Following the surge in popularity of the Alien: Romulus movie, it’s only fitting that we hear more about the Predator series. Director Dan Trachtenberg revitalized the Predator with the 2022 release of Prey, a well-received thriller featuring a Native American woman battling one of the notorious creatures. Now, it seems like Trachtenberg is continuing his work within this franchise, and it looks like production for the new Predator film has begun.

Based on information obtained by the fan site AvP Galaxy, the movie titled Predator: Badlands is currently being produced in New Zealand. At this point, not many details have been disclosed about the film, except that it’s being directed by Trachtenberg from a script penned by Patrick Aison. Unlike Prey, Badlands will be set in the future.

The unverified “Alien vs. Predator Universe” report, as yet undeniably confirmed by 20th Century Studios, also outlines a plot for the upcoming film titled “Badlands“. This plot seems to revolve around the tale of two sisters who part ways for the first time. Furthermore, it appears that the production team is considering casting a single actress to portray both primary characters.

Previously, it had been mentioned that Elle Fanning could potentially star in the movie “Predator: Badlands,” as her age aligns with the range specified for the leading roles. However, neither the commencement of production nor her casting have been confirmed officially at this time.

Besides “Predator: Badlands”, production was also started on “Prey 2” around the same time, which is a follow-up to Trachtenberg’s film from a few years back. However, there haven’t been many updates about its progress since it was first announced. If Amber Midthunder, who starred in “Prey”, were to return and reprise her role in “Prey 2”, she would be the only actor in the franchise to appear in more than one movie.

There’s a lot of excitement among fans for another crossover between the Alien and Predator series, after two films in the 2000s featuring Alien vs. Predator. Director Fede Álvarez, from Alien: Romulus, seems to favor this idea, implying that he and Trachtenberg might collaborate on the project, creating a connection between the separate storylines.

According to Alvarez, there might be a need for him to jointly lead the direction of the project with his friend Dan. He proposed an idea similar to what Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with “From Dusk Till Dawn”. He suggested they could each direct separate halves of the project.
