Spoilers for Predator: Killer of Killers!
Dan Trachtenberg’s films, “Prey” and “Predator: Killer of Killers”, have significantly revitalized the standalone Predator franchise by offering fresh perspectives and ideas. In contrast to the 2018 installment, “The Predator”, which was overloaded with sequel hints and references that felt forced, Trachtenberg’s pair of Predator films have expanded the scope of the franchise by exploring different eras in human history. Instead of mere imitations of the original Predator, these two movies have utilized unique period settings to present innovative concepts within the Predator franchise.
Interestingly, “Killer of Killers” proves to be an entertaining 90 minutes of intense R-rated action cinema, yet it concludes in a manner that could account for the consistency across every Predator movie installment. Previous Predator films have had difficulty maintaining a coherent continuity within this franchise; however, “Killer of Killers” provides a resolution suggesting that all the franchise’s warrior characters can still unite.
Predator: Killer of Killers Ending Explained
Following the conclusion of every tale within the anthology, a climactic “Slayer of Slayers” sequence unfolds, reuniting the movie’s heroic trio: Ursa (Lindsay LaVanchy), Kenji (Louis Ozawa), and Torres (Rick Gonzales). Each character had earlier defeated a Predator, but were subsequently apprehended and placed in stasis for endless ages. Eventually, they were revived, forced to fight one another on a Predator-controlled world. The trio cooperates to escape their captors, with a particular focus on avoiding the formidable adversary Warlord Predator (Britton Watkins). Despite Ursa’s heroic sacrifice and subsequent recapture by the Predators, she manages to save the day.
After Kenji and Torres escape, Ursa is once again frozen. She’s taken into a chamber filled with creatures from across the galaxy, all in cryogenic storage. The scene focuses on Naru (Amber Midthunder), another character from Prey, who’s also frozen in this state. This shot hints that not only the main characters of Killer of Killers have been subjected to this freezing process. If you’ve defeated a Predator, these aliens capture you for an alien spectacle of slaughter in outer space.

This implication is clear that characters from earlier Predator films, notably Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover’s characters, might be hiding somewhere in this facility. By employing this approach, the Predator series can maintain its continuity across different time periods while keeping a common thread for these seemingly unrelated characters (potentially for an Alien vs. Predator encounter). It’s also intriguing that this tournament enhances the sadness of previous Predator films, as human protagonists have fought tirelessly in the past, only to realize it was merely preparation for the Predators’ combat games.
How Does Predator: Badlands Fit Into All Of This?
Discussing the broader context of other Predator entries, the fight between humans adds a richer dimension to the cosmic-themed Predator movies. The Predators and the upcoming Predator: Badlands seem to revolve around extraterrestrials honing their abilities and evaluating human warriors for this very competition. We’ll have to wait and see if Trachtenberg links these two Predator stories more directly in Badlands.
My goodness, it turns out that the 2018 film The Predator even makes a modicum of sense within this fresh perspective, though its overall quality might not have significantly improved. Intriguingly, it appears that a member of the Predator species (the Yautja) who were previously engaged in a systemic extermination of humans and other alien species, decided to go against their superiors by alerting humanity about the impending destruction they faced. The Super-Predators portrayed in this movie seem to have been specifically engineered for these “Champions of Champions” fights, often referred to as “Killer of Killers”. It’s remarkable how Killer of Killers weaves in intriguing new information that can also connect the dots across every corner of this entire franchise.
What makes this film exceptional is that it doesn’t pause the action to meticulously detail how it links to every previous and subsequent Predator movies. Instead, it cleverly weaves in connections to its predecessors without sacrificing an engaging standalone story. In a time when many big franchises become mired in intricate multiverse lore, the streamlined yet tantalizing storytelling of Dan Trachtenberg is commendable and offers multiple layers of enjoyment. It’s intriguing to speculate how these elements enrich earlier Predator installments and open up possibilities for future projects like Badlands. However, the most enjoyable aspect is experiencing its vibrant worlds in the present moment.
Predator: Killer of Killers is now streaming on Hulu.
