Prime Video Cancels New Comedy Series With 89% RT Score After 1 Season

After establishing itself as one of the most prosperous streaming platforms, boasting an array of unique original productions – be they movies or television series – Amazon has recently decided to terminate another series from its lineup.

In my humble opinion as a movie critic, I enthusiastically watched the premiere of “Clean Slate” on February 6th, and it was indeed a laugh-out-loud comedy sitcom. This series, which boasts the creative minds of Laverne Cox from “Orange Is the New Black” and George Wallace from “Batman Forever,” had me hooked from the get-go, as they also grace our screens with their on-screen presence.

However, despite the initial wave of favorable reviews, it seems the streaming giant, Prime Video, has decided to pull the plug on “Clean Slate” after just one season. This news leaves me a tad disappointed, as I was eagerly anticipating more episodes from this promising show.

In a guest article, Cox, Wallace, and co-creator Dan Ewen officially announced the show’s details, discussing its origins and additional information about the series. The “Clean Slate” production was one of Norman Lear’s final projects before his passing in 2023. Originally announced by Peacock in January 2020, this series underwent development for several years, eventually moving from Peacock to IMDb TV (now called Amazon Freevee) in February 2021, and then to Prime Video in December 2024.

The final episode of our heartfelt eight-part series aired by March, the co-creators shared. A labor spanning seven years evaporated in the blink of an eye with the server’s exhaustion.

The original creators outlined the story behind the development of the series, discussing their interactions with the late Norman Lear, as well as the initial title, which was “Sanford and Daughter“. They also mentioned that securing a platform for the show was a challenging process involving numerous setbacks, false starts, and some truly nerve-wracking, unverified parking situations.

It was made clear that Norman Lear’s last comedy production was a breathtakingly beautiful blend of authenticity and diversity, one that might give Marjorie Taylor Greene sleepless nights. This refers to the inclusive LGBTQ+ themed comedy series.
