It’s the opening day of shooting and judging by the photo, things are bound to get bloody right away. In the behind-the-scenes shot, a clapperboard smeared with blood is visible, along with what appears to be the show’s logo – a blood-stained tiara. Despite Carrie already having been adapted into three films, fans are excited about Flanagan’s interpretation due to his successful track record with King’s novels.
Flanagan began by sharing that the filming of Carrie had started, as announced by him with a straightforward post. The series was given the go-ahead by Amazon in April, and since then, things have progressed swiftly. The principal cast has been unveiled gradually, with Summer H. Howell portraying the central character. Simultaneously, Flanagan has shared his reasons for accepting this project and his beliefs about why the story deserves another telling.
Carrie White’s story resonates strongly with current themes of high school violence and bullying. Stephen King wrote this novel years ago, but its relevance is striking now more than ever. This offers an opportunity for a fresh, contemporary take on the story. Instead of merely updating the time period, we can use it as a platform to discuss the challenges faced by American high school students today.

Mike Flanagan has taken Stephen King’s novels “Gerald’s Game” and “Doctor Sleep,” the sequel to “The Shining,” and transformed them into movies, with the latter hitting theaters recently. His latest work is “The Life of Chuck,” based on a 2020 short story by King, which is currently showing in cinemas. Given his current pace, it’s no surprise that Flanagan is already busy working on a new project – a reimagining of “Carrie.” However, an official release date for the upcoming film has yet to be announced.
