Prince Harry Gives Rare Update on Life as a Father

Life in California has been royally blissful for Prince Harry.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of crossing paths with none other than the former professional rugby legend, Richie McCaw, during this month’s Invictus Games. In our brief encounter, we shared some engaging moments as he inquired about the life my family and I are currently living in Montecito, specifically focusing on the daily joys and challenges shared with my remarkable partner Meghan Markle, as well as our delightful children, Archie, aged 5, and Lilibet, who just turned 3.

Richie shared that during their chat, he asked, ‘How’s everything?’ To which he responded, ‘Things are going well,’ adding a casual tone to his words. He stated, ‘I can take my children to school without any problems.’ This was shared by Richie in an interview with Us Weekly published on Feb 28th.

The sportsman, who had shared a selfie with Harry from the sports event on Instagram, made this remark: “You know, we often overlook it, don’t we?” Later, he expressed sympathy towards the challenging predicament faced by Harry and Meghan regarding their separation from the royal family, stating it as a “difficult position to find oneself in…whichever angle you consider it.

Richie, 44, went on to reflect on his time with Harry in Vancouver.

On several occasions, we’ve encountered the royal family, but I didn’t spend much time with Prince Harry, he mentioned. However, yes, it was quite an experience to be able to talk with him. I never expected a selfie like that to garner such widespread interest.

Harry shared a unique insight following Meghan’s recent glimpse into their family life at home, which she offered only a few weeks ago as proud parents of two.

On Valentine’s Day, the Duchess of Sussex shared a heartwarming video on Instagram Stories, capturing her special day at home with her children. Meanwhile, Prince Harry was busy overseeing the Invictus Games, an athletic event he established in 2014 for wounded and injured veterans.

In the video, Meghan is shown at home, making Valentine’s-inspired treats and enjoying time with Archie and Lili, while also strolling around their residence.

The actor from Suits, out of affection for the holiday, posted a heartfelt black-and-white picture of them sharing a kiss over dinner, as a gesture to Harry.

At home, looking after our little ones, and deeply feeling the absence of my Valentine, as he carries on with the Invictus Games, making a difference in people’s lives and serving as an inspiration to all by showcasing the remarkable healing and resilience of these exceptional veterans and their families.

Meghan added, “I’m incredibly proud of my husband and his achievements.” She went on to say, “My dear, we can enjoy burgers, fries, and fish & chips together forever.” Lastly, she expressed her gratitude by saying, “Thank you for who you are.

He expressed to Sky News in 2015 that he didn’t believe these things could be forced; they would occur naturally when the time was right. When asked about the birth of his niece Princess Charlotte making him consider settling down, he replied that while he longed for children at the moment, there is a procedure one must follow.

In the past, Meghan also bought a Cartier French Tank watch with her future child in mind. She admitted to Hello! in 2015 that she had long admired this watch. When she discovered Suits was renewed for our third season—a significant moment at the time—she decided to treat herself and purchased the two-toned version. She had it engraved with “To M.M. From M.M.” and intends to present it to her daughter in the future.

The topic of fatherhood, much like marriage, has followed closely behind Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana’s younger son for a long time. In an interview with People magazine in May 2016, just before he met his future spouse, he shared: “At times during life, particularly when we’re on tour abroad, I think, ‘I really wish I had children now.’ But then there are moments when I shy away from the idea, thinking, ‘I don’t need kids!’ There’s no hurry. At times, the thought of having children has even crossed my mind negatively.

2017 saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announcing their engagement and granting their first joint interview together. As expected during such an occasion, the topic of starting a family eventually surfaced. “Absolutely,” Prince Harry replied, “I believe we should take things one step at a time, and ideally, we’ll start our own family soon.” Meghan was smiling next to him as he spoke.

Experiencing motherhood with Archie has been nothing short of magical for me. It’s truly astonishing, and to be blessed with the company of two incredible individuals – my partners in life – makes me incredibly joyful.

After Archie’s birth in May 2019, Harry expressed his feelings by saying, “This experience has been more incredible than I could have ever imagined. The strength of women is something that words can barely express, but we are both extremely happy and grateful for all the love and support from everyone around us. It’s been an amazing journey, so we wanted to share this happiness with everyone.

During his speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit in 2019, Harry pondered on the valuable lessons he’s gained since becoming a parent. He expressed, “Today, I find myself particularly struck by several points, with the strongest being the impact of unseen role models. The individual who might not even be aware that they are inspiring someone else to become kinder, more effective, more influential, and more successful. This could be the person sitting here today, without realizing that someone looks up to them, as they have the power to influence their actions.” He added, “As a father, I now understand that my son is always observing me, learning from my behavior, and perhaps one day emulating my path.

In 2020, Prince Harry expressed that our dear man is our utmost concern, yet our duties come second. He’s simply striving to contribute and help improve our world in any way he can.

Harry and Meghan discovered a positive aspect during the coronavirus pandemic thanks to their baby, Archie. In Meghan’s words from October 2020, “In numerous ways, we are fortunate to have this time to witness him grow, as without COVID-19, we would be traveling and working more outside our home.” She added, “We would miss many of those precious moments. So, I believe it’s been a lot of quality family time.

Harry noted, “We were present at all the significant milestones in Archie’s life – his first walks, first runs, first stumbles, and more.

In May 2021, Meghan, the former actress, appeared seldomly on TV during the Global Citizen’s VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World special. During this event, she spoke candidly about her pregnancy and expressed her happiness at the prospect of raising a daughter. She stated, “My spouse and I are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our daughter. This sense of joy is shared by countless other families worldwide.” Reflecting on their child, she emphasized the importance of empowering young women and girls globally to take charge and guide us into the future.

She stated, “Our current choices and actions will determine the leadership abilities of others in the future, ultimately shaping a tomorrow that is prosperous, fair, and filled with kindness for everyone involved.

In a short appearance, Meghan is featured in her husband’s Apple TV+ series titled “The Me You Can’t See,” co-hosted by Oprah. During this segment, the Californian resident appears to honor her expanding family with a shirt displaying the message, “Nurturing Tomorrow.

On June 4th, they were overjoyed by the birth of their little girl, Lili. They expressed their happiness in a post on their Archewell Foundation page, saying “Lili has exceeded all our expectations, and we are deeply grateful for the love and well-wishes we’ve received from around the world. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this wonderful time for our family.

On June 8, 2021, Meghan will unveil her debut children’s book titled “The Bench“, which is a heartfelt tribute to fatherhood as seen through a mother’s eyes. In a statement released in May, she shared that the story originated from a poem she penned for her husband on Father’s Day, a month after their son Archie was born. This poem eventually evolved into the book we now know as “The Bench“.

In a letter dated October 2021, addressed to House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer, Meghan expressed her delight yet burdened feelings upon the birth of her daughter during the ongoing pandemic, which disrupted normal operations at hospitals, schools, and other establishments.

She expressed, “Much like other parents, we didn’t face the unyielding truth of having to either stay with our newborn during those crucial initial months or return to work. We understood that we could bring our baby home, and in that vital (and profound) period, dedicate ourselves entirely to our children and family. This decision allowed us to avoid daily struggles with difficult choices concerning childcare, employment, and healthcare, which many families must endure.

Meghan went on to say, “No family ought to confront such choices. No family should be compelled to balance work and caregiving duties. A thorough paid leave program would encompass decisions about caring for a child, a loved one, or oneself.

Today in April 2022, Harry admitted that combining his work-at-home lifestyle with parenting duties was practically impossible.

Archie interrupts our Zoom meetings more frequently than anyone else, it seems,” he pointed out. “Additionally, he tends to be interrupted himself quite a bit too, which is an interesting observation.

Harry observed that his son already displayed a similar wit to his own. “I make sure to nurture that trait,” he mentioned. “I believe that the mischievous spirit is what helps one stay vibrant.

Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.

She expressed during the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit in October 2023, as part of World Mental Health Day’s Project Healthy Minds, that being a mother holds the greatest significance in her life—with the exception, of course, of being married to Harry.

She continued, “I’m grateful that our kids are still quite young, which means we don’t have this issue right now. However, I must admit, I’m apprehensive about how things are evolving, as it seems like something we’ll soon face.

As a parent, Meghan pointed out that while days may seem endless, years pass quickly. In this context, she expressed her concerns about how everyone gets impacted by the digital realm, including social media, and emphasized the common desire for safety in these spaces.

During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2024, Meghan addressed a group of kindergarteners, saying, “Our daughter, Lili, is significantly smaller than any of you. She’s almost three years old now. A few weeks ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Mama, I see myself in you.’

In response, Meghan said, “She spoke quite literally at the moment.” However, I interpreted her words in a unique manner. And I pondered, ‘Indeed, I recognize myself in you, and vice versa.’
