Due to Ubisoft not disclosing the sales figures for their side-scrolling game titled Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, there has been a lot of talk about how successful it might have been. A recent rumor, originating from a LinkedIn post by an associate marketing director, suggests that the game managed to sell around 1.3 million copies in its first year.
Timur222 noticed that Alexandre Guenounou, while serving as an associate marketing director at Ubisoft from October 2021, was involved in promoting the game “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.” According to his profile, this particular title sold over 1.3 million copies.
As a dedicated gamer, if these sales numbers are accurate, they would certainly add weight to the whispers I heard way back in October about this game selling an impressive 1 million units by then. To put it into perspective, when Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown first hit the scene in January 2024, there were rumors swirling that it had moved around 300,000 copies.
Last year’s launch of this game sparked whispers that its sales didn’t meet Ubisoft’s targets, leading them to halt any further work on it. There were even rumors of a sequel being proposed but ultimately declined. The team behind the original game has since been disbanded.
After confirming, it’s been made known that the development team behind “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” has shifted their focus to different tasks. The game’s additional content following its launch, including free updates and new DLC, has now concluded its planned roadmap.
Back in October, the senior producer of the game stated that most of the team members who worked on “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” have moved on to different projects where their skills will be valuable. They also expressed that fans’ affection for this franchise is recognized and Ubisoft is looking forward to delivering more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.
At present, enthusiasts of the Prince of Persia series may want to explore “The Rogue Prince of Persia” as another option within the franchise.
