Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Sequel Pitch Rejected, Dev Team Disbanded – Rumour

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the most captivating games I’ve played in recent memory. It masterfully blends the nostalgia of the early Prince of Persia games with the innovative Metroidvania genre, creating an unforgettable adventure.

The game titled “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” has been praised as one of the best games released so far this year and is also considered among the top Metroidvania games you’ll ever play. However, it appears that a sequel may not be in the works, according to recent reports suggesting the same.

According to French journalist Gautoz (via ResetEra), Ubisoft has shut down the development team for the game at their Montpellier studio, as the side-scrolling Metroidvania action-adventure title didn’t meet Ubisoft’s sales expectations. Although Ubisoft hasn’t released official figures for the game yet, it was reported shortly after its launch that it only attracted roughly 300,000 players within its first few weeks.

According to Gautoz, key personnel from the development crew of “The Lost Crown” attempted to secure approval for a couple more expansions for the game, as well as proposed a sequel. However, it’s said that Ubisoft declined both proposals. Instead, they decided to dissolve the team and reassign its members to different projects within Ubisoft, which were believed to have a higher sales potential.

Incredibly, some reports suggest that Ubisoft’s higher-ups rejected the pitch for a sequel due to concerns that it might compete with the future sales of The Lost Crown itself, potentially eating into its long-term profits.

In our critique of the game, we gave it a rating of 9 out of 10, expressing that “The Lost Crown” is an exceptional title. This game not only embodies the strongest aspects of the earliest side-scrolling versions of “Prince of Persia,” but it also breathes new life into the series in a remarkable way through its Metroidvania design layout. The game excels in areas such as level design, combat, platforming, visual aesthetics, exploration, and soundtrack. In many aspects, “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” is an impressive achievement and one of Ubisoft’s best games in quite some time. To read the full review, click here.
