Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 14th Anniversary Getaway: Reliving Their Love Story in Scotland

Prince William and Kate Middleton are going back to where it all started.

On their 14th wedding anniversary, April 29, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (who are parents to Prince George, aged 11, Princess Charlotte, aged 9, and Prince Louis, aged 7) reminisced about their past. Specifically, they traveled back to Scotland, where they first met, fell in love, and studied together at the University of St. Andrews.

The duo made it to Tobermory, a quaint town nestled on the Isle of Mull, adorned in matching blue collared shirts and stylish jackets. Throughout their journey, they intend to engage with local community centers, as shown in videos shared on X, and also explore sustainable farming methods. Their itinerary includes celebrating the strength of community bonds and connections.

After all, the country holds a great deal of significance for both William and Kate.

William shared during the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2021 that Scotland holds a profound significance for him and will forever hold a cherished spot in his heart. He’s been visiting Scotland since he was young, and as he matured, he observed how his grandmother delights in each moment spent there. Furthermore, he noted that his father finds immense joy while strolling through the Scottish hills.

Twenty years ago, it was right here in Scotland where I encountered Catherine for the first time,” he went on. “It’s no secret that the town where you encounter the one you’ll marry is deeply cherished.

Instead, let’s say: The couple is taking a significant trip back to Scotland this time, as they chose to celebrate Easter weekend at their countryside residence in Norfolk with their children. Meanwhile, other members of the royal family are attending the annual Easter service at St George Chapel in Windsor.

Over the past few months, Kate has gradually resumed her public responsibilities following a round of chemotherapy treatment she received last year.

Kate, who shared her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 on X, wrote in January that she is grateful to now be in remission and continues to work diligently toward recovery. As one can imagine, anyone who has gone through a cancer diagnosis understands the need for time to adapt to a changed lifestyle.

She went on saying, “I’m excitedly anticipating a rewarding year to come.” And there’s plenty to be excited about. A big thank you to all of you for your ongoing encouragement.

However, throughout all those moments, William never missed an occasion to express his affection for his spouse openly. On Valentine’s Day, he posted a heartwarming picture of them together, and in the month prior, he penned a touching tribute for her birthday.

42-year-old wrote on their social media platforms earlier this year: “To my extraordinary wife and mother, your strength over the past year has been awe-inspiring. George, Charlotte, Louis, and I are extremely proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine! We adore you.” (signed) W.
