Sadly, goalkeeper Holden Trent from the Philadelphia Union football team has tragically passed away at the age of 25. This unfortunate event took place on October 26th.
“His family expressed gratitude for all the supportive messages of thought and prayer they’ve received during these tough times, posting on Holden’s Instagram account. Sadly, Holden passed away this afternoon, with loved ones and friends by his side.
The soccer player is survived by his fiancé, Brie, to whom he proposed last December.
Information about how Trent passed away hasn’t been disclosed yet. Earlier in the week, it was shared on his Instagram Story that he had been admitted to an intensive care unit, as reported by CBS Sports.

Trent’s team also shared a tribute to the athlete.
The Philadelphia Union soccer club expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of Holden Trent on their official site. He wasn’t just an exceptional athlete and relentless competitor; he was above all a loving son, brother, fiancé, and teammate who positively influenced those around him.
The message went on to say, “He truly represented the essence of determination, commitment, and tenacity, and he will be profoundly mourned. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones – his family, his partner, and his friends. In honor of Holden’s friends and family, we will not issue any additional statements at present and kindly request that their privacy is observed as they cope with their loss.
In the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, the Union picked Trent, a local from Greensboro, North Carolina (High Point University graduate), as the 28th overall pick. Unfortunately, before he could take the field with the first team, Trent passed away. Earlier, he had played in six matches for their second team in MLS Next Pro, according to ESPN’s reports.
MLS reps also expressed their condolences over the player’s death.
