A protest in Salt Lake City has taken a tragic turn.
Arthur Ah Loo, who appeared on season 17 of ‘Project Runway‘ in 2019, tragically lost his life during a “No Kings” protest against the Trump administration on June 14th, as stated in a press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department. He was 39 years old.
Initially, the emergency responders from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance tended to the fashion designer upon arrival, as stated by officials. Regrettably, despite their valiant attempts, he passed away later at the hospital.
In a statement, Salt Lake City’s Police Chief, Brian Redd, expressed his sympathies, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and the broader community who have been affected by the tragic death of a 39-year-old man.
Initial inquiries suggest that Ah Loo was simply a “bystander” who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it appears he was not the one “aimed at” or meant to be hit by the gunfire.
The unfortunate incident transpired following members of the peacekeeping team spotting Arturo Gamboa, a 24-year-old individual, retrieve an AR-15-type gun from his backpack, as uncovered by the SLCPD’s investigation. Upon being instructed to surrender his weapon by the peacekeepers, Mr. Gamboa instead advanced towards the crowd, leading one of the peacekeepers to discharge three shots—one of which struck Ah Loo.
According to officials, Gamboa, clad in dark attire and concealed by a black mask, was hit by one of the bullets and was hospitalized. Subsequently, he was moved to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, where he’s currently being held, and charged with murder.
TopMob News attempted to get a response from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department, but we haven’t received one yet. Unfortunately, we couldn’t reach a representative for Gamboa for comment.
Ah Loo, affectionately called “Afa” by those close to him, didn’t let the limelight of reality TV define his love for design. Instead, he established Creative Pacific, a nonprofit organization that organizes events to honor and celebrate Pacific Island culture. This information is reported by Forbes.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the matter.
Our investigators are currently delving deep into understanding the details of this event, as stated in the SLCPD’s official statement. We ensure that this isolated action won’t instill fear within our neighborhood.
