As a gamer, I’m pumped! Keep my mana charged and my broomstick ready to fly, as a fresh look at the game Promise of Wizard has dropped. The snap showcases all the main characters from the anime, even the 21 wizards from the games. At the forefront is Arthur Granvelle, the kind-hearted prince of the Central Kingdom who’s also a wizard. Despite being the face in most promotional materials, Arthur isn’t our lead character. The girl with brown hair and a white jacket behind him in the picture is! Her name’s Akira Masaki, a regular Japanese woman who finds herself thrust into a magical realm.
In a collective known as Sage’s Wizards, the wizards enlist Akira for assistance in an upcoming quest. Interestingly, it seems that Arthur will play a significant role alongside Akira, contributing to the storyline of the series. The primary cast consists of 21 wizards, each residing in one of the five main countries – Central, North, East, South, and West. These wizards are divided according to their origin: Central, Northern, Eastern, Southern, or Western Wizards. Liden Films will be responsible for its production, with airing set on the TOKYO MX channel in Japan starting January 6, 2025.
What is the Promise of Wizard?
The “Wizard’s Promise” anime is based on a mobile game of the same name, developed and produced by Coly for Android and iOS devices. This simulation-style game allows players to assume the role of an unspecified protagonist and cultivate relationships with members of the Sage’s Wizards. Players can choose whether their main character will be male or female, but the anime has opted for a female lead. As the player character, you earn the title of Sage, capable of summoning any wizard from the primary group. It appears that Akira Masaki might fill the protagonist’s role in the anime adaptation of the game.
The video game, launched in Japan back in November 2019, has garnered sufficient interest to inspire not one but two manga interpretations. Excitingly, an anime adaptation was announced during a livestream celebrating its fourth anniversary in November 2023. Studio Coly has partnered with other animation houses, producing commercials for the animated series titled “Promise of Wizard,” creatively handled by WIT Studios and A-1 Pictures. The upcoming anime series will feature scriptwriting by Nanami Higuchi, direction by Naoyki Tatsuwa, and music composition by Shuji Katayama – all seasoned professionals in the anime industry.
The advertising for the “Promise of Wizard” anime portrays it as a lighthearted and magical animated program, filled with captivating visuals. The clips reveal the main female character amidst a group of youthful-looking wizards, suggesting that the series leans towards shojo genre. However, the extent to which the storyline from the game will be carried over remains uncertain; nonetheless, it has retained the game’s aesthetic qualities to maintain the visually appealing art style and characters.
