Critics of Sony, particularly PlayStation Plus subscribers on both PS4 and PS5, have labeled the company as “greedy” due to a recent unexpected charge for PS Plus users. One of the primary benefits of a PlayStation Plus subscription – be it Essential, Extra, or Premium – is the monthly distribution of free games to subscribers. Although these games aren’t truly free because they necessitate an active PlayStation Plus subscription and can only be retained as long as this subscription remains active, many view them as gratis extras rather than the primary reason for their PlayStation Plus membership. In essence, they are frequently seen as additional, complimentary bonuses.
For some time now, numerous fantastic games for both the PS4 and PS5 consoles have been distributed at no cost through the PS Plus service. However, it’s important to note that just because you received these games as part of your subscription, it doesn’t mean you actually own them permanently. This is a fresh update from Sony regarding their policy on games given away through PS Plus.
In April 2021, Day Gone was made available for free through PS Plus. It has also been included in the PS Plus Collection. However, those who obtained the game via PS Plus will not be eligible for the $10 upgrade that original Day Gone buyers are receiving for Days Gone Remastered.
In case you’ve been out of the loop, Sony has unveiled Days Gone Remastered for the PS5. The game drops on April 25th, and if you already own it on PS4, you’ll only have to pay $10. However, if you obtained it through PlayStation Plus, you’re looking at a full price of $70, just like everyone else. This decision is causing quite a stir among PlayStation Plus subscribers.
On the Reddit page dedicated to PlayStation Plus, one of the most popular posts this week discusses some information that has left many PlayStation 4 and 5 subscribers unhappy because they feel excluded from the upgrade path for the remaster. These disgruntled users have no plans to explore the remaster as a result.
1st Comment: “If I’m not going to pay an additional $10 for a game I’ve already played, then I’m not purchasing it.”
2nd Comment: “Instead of making money unnecessarily, they could leave that amount on the table. It seems like greed is the only reason this upgrade isn’t available without extra charge, and I can’t find any technical limitations that would prevent it.
Approximately 500 comments have been posted, and a large majority of them express dissatisfaction. Some even label Sony as ‘greedy’ and use less than flattering terms. It’s clear that many PlayStation Plus subscribers are displeased, but it’s likely that PlayStation was anticipating this response when they made their decision. In simpler terms, it’s highly unlikely that they are taken aback by this reaction.
Currently, PlayStation hasn’t addressed any controversy surrounding their recent decision. However, should that change, we’ll be sure to update our report. In the interim, for comprehensive coverage on PlayStation Plus, featuring the latest news, rumors, leaks, and deals, follow this link.
