PS Productions to Produce Resident Evil Movie Reboot by Barbarian Director

PS Productions is set to work with a new, non-Sony owned intellectual property, having been brought aboard for the remake of the Resident Evil series by filmmaker Zach Cregger, known for his work on “The Barbarian.

The movie, scheduled for theater release on September 18, 2026, has been pitched to various studios, with rumors suggesting Warner Bros might distribute it. However, since they have handled all past Resident Evil films, Sony is determined to keep the rights and is hoping for a successful outcome in this case.

Working together with Shay Hatten, Cregger is credited as a co-writer for the script. Although specifics are still confidential, it’s rumored that this film intends to revisit the original themes of the Capcom series.

For years, I’ve been passionately devoted to these games, and it’s truly an honor to help create such an extraordinary game. This is what the creator of the Barbarian series shared with Deadline.

2026, I’m beyond thrilled to be part of this legendary Sony franchise revival! They call me a talented newcomer, but I can tell you, it’s been a labor of love bringing fresh ideas and approaches to this project. It’s an honor to be associated with one of their most significant releases in recent years, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve created together!

On Twitter, Asad Qizilbash from PS Productions expressed his excitement about being part of the production team for this cherished and renowned franchise.
