PS1 Games on PS5 and PS4 Get New Release After Fan Complaints

As a dedicated gamer who grew up with a PlayStation 1 controller gripped tightly in my hands, it’s like a dream come true to see Capcom’s iconic games, Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, finally available on their own on the PlayStation Store. I remember countless hours spent navigating through those pixelated terrors, and now I can relive those memories without the hassle of subscribing to a premium service!

In response to fan demands, Sony has made available two beloved PS1 games from Capcom on both PS5 and PS4. Over the last few years, Sony has been re-introducing many classic PS1 games onto contemporary PlayStation systems. Most of these retro titles are purchasable individually on the PlayStation Store or included in the “Classics” selection for PlayStation Plus Premium members. However, two Capcom games were not previously released independently, causing disappointment among fans. Now, fortunately, both of these popular PS1 games from Capcom can be bought separately.

As of this week, both Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut have landed on the PlayStation Store. While both games were accessible on current-gen PlayStation hardware previously, Capcom had locked their availability behind PS Plus Premium. This decision was one that PlayStation fans didn’t understand as Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut were the only two PS1 re-releases that had opted to do this. Now, those at PlayStation and Capcom have clearly heard the feedback as they’ve chosen to let each game loose individually.

These adaptations of Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut share many similarities with their PlayStation 1 originals, but with a few contemporary updates. The main differences lie in the inclusion of quick save and rewind functions, as well as some enhanced visual elements. Essentially, these games should still retain the feel they had when initially released in the late 90s, just with a bit of a modern polish.

If you’re keen on owning either the classic survival horror game, Dino Crisis, or the enhanced version of Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, both are currently available for purchase at $9.99 each. You can find their updated descriptions and some nostalgic trailers further down below.
