Starting tomorrow, Sony has shared that certain themes for PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4, which were designed to commemorate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, will no longer be accessible on PS5. However, fear not! These themes aren’t vanishing forever. The company has hinted at their continued work in the background to reintroduce them within the coming months.
On Twitter, they expressed gratitude for the terrific feedback received about the temporary PlayStation themes for PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Since these four themes have garnered a lot of positive reactions, they’re making some adjustments backstage to reintroduce these unique designs again in the upcoming months.
In a subsequent update, Sony stated that they currently don’t intend to develop further themes beyond the 30th-anniversary editions. However, they are eager to continue honoring the classic PlayStation hardware alongside you all.
For approximately two months now, since December 2nd, 2024, the PS5 themes commemorating its 30th anniversary and featuring the iconic PS1 boot sequence and sounds have been accessible on your PS5 console. You even have the option to customize your home screen to mimic the design of the PS2, PS3, or PS4. Although it’s unclear if Sony is planning additional work to make these themes a permanent fixture, they have confirmed that they will not be disappearing forever from the PS5’s settings menu.
