PS3 Emulation in Development at Studio Behind Bringing PlayStation Classics to PS Plus

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent on the iconic PlayStation 3, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia upon hearing the news about potential native PS3 games on the PS5 through emulation. The idea of revisiting some of my favorite titles like Uncharted, God of War, or even Resistance, all while enjoying the benefits of modern hardware, is truly exciting!

However, I’ve learned to temper my expectations, having been a part of this gaming community long enough to understand that emulation projects can take time. The tag “Dreaming About” on Implicit Conversions’ roadmap does suggest we might be in for a wait. But hey, if it takes as long as the infamous PS5 restock waitlists, I guess I’ll just keep replaying those old games on my trusty vintage PS3… or maybe find a way to install it in my coffee maker.

Joke: You know what they say, patience is a virtue… or in my case, it’s the amount of time I’ve spent waiting for my turn to play the latest game!

It appears developers are attempting to create a way for PlayStation 3 games to run directly on PlayStation 5 using emulation technology. Specifically, a company called Implicit Conversions has mentioned in their public plans the creation of a PlayStation 3 emulator. According to their roadmap, they are currently investigating and designing a prototype PS3 emulator that would utilize their internal Syrup emulation engine.

As a gaming enthusiast, I gotta say, it’s important to keep in mind that PS3 emulation with Syrup might be a ways off yet. The post on their roadmap is labeled “Dreaming About,” which suggests they’re still deep in the research stage, so it could take some time before we can actually play games on it.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled about the Syrup engine! This amazing tool lets me breathe new life into my classic titles from consoles like the Sega Master System and Nintendo Entertainment System, making them playable on modern platforms such as Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The emulator offers a fantastic range of features too, including support for online gaming, save states, timeline rewinding, and widescreen compatibility. It’s like having my old favorites right at my fingertips, but with all the benefits of modern technology!

The studio collaborates with Sony to port some of its iconic games from PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 onto contemporary systems. These titles are accessible via the premium levels of a PlayStation Plus membership. As for PlayStation 3 games, they can currently be played on the PS5 via cloud gaming technology.

As a gamer, I’ve got to mention that some dedicated enthusiasts are tirelessly working on PS3 emulation using open-source tech. Emulators like RPCS3 are already running certain PS3 games on PC, but it’s important to note that this is still a work in progress. Developers are constantly adding new features and expanding the compatibility with more games, so keep an eye out for updates!
